I don't think so. If you want to get laid, then yeah you can pay a hooker to pretend to be into you for a half hour. But there's still "Chad" getting pussy for free with girls that are legtimately into him. The ONLY gender dynamics would change is if men valued women solely for sex and literally nothing else, which even in the most traditional countries simply isn't true. If nothing else, men want to feel desired by women, and paying a prostitute for sex won't change that urge.

No, not really. Most men can't afford to buy the kind of intimacy they want out of a relationship.

My gf experience is expensive (it's an extra. You only get standard service and conversation for my hourly fee). And there's like 0 chance I'll text you between sessions to make you feel special and loved or whatever because, look, I'm busy and you're really not that fucking special.

Men don't come to prostitutes for sex. They come for intimacy. And it's sad, because ultimately, you can't buy ongoing intimacy -- I really do feel for some of my clients.

Your experience isn't showing you a big flaw in TRP theory at all, you're just looking at the role of prostitution all wrong because you are comparing two entirely different markets. In a society where prostitution is illegal, women can withold sex to get resources without explicitly naming a price. In a society where prostitution is legal, it doesn't necessarily lower the price the woman can set on her sexual availability, it merely lowers the demand for her sexual availability. Social factors such as the stigma against going to prostitutes make the acceptable unspoken price that women set for themselves artificially high. However, prostitution creates a lower price point and less hassle which has its own virtues to a consumer. Think of your favorite restaurant. Within 2 miles, there are several other restaurants. If they are cheap fast food restaurants, they will take away some of the demand for the higher priced venue but ultimately have no discernible impact on the prices on the menu there.

tl;dr prostitutes compete with eachother, not with the dating/hookup scene.

Sweden is an abolitionist European country. Suffice to say Swedish women are not exactly coy about approaching men.

Germany and Netherlands both have legal prostitution. Dutch women do tend to approach men. Their German counterparts are not so adventurous, but probably try more than American women.

Of course, these are averages. You will find determined pursuers and shy passive women everywhere.

It might change some things, although I doubt it would change much in terms of gender dynamics. I think there are still strong cultural and family pressures for both men and women to be in conventional, traditional relationships leading to marriage, kids, etc.

Being married is often important for a man's career and ability to move up the ladder, since it's assumed that married men are more reliable, stable. Men who are not married or in a relationship are viewed with suspicion by some. I'm sure that mentality has lessened somewhat since earlier eras, but it still tends to linger in some circles.

It's kind of too early to say, because it only became mainstream for a large proportion of women to be economically able to survive without men about 50 years ago.

That's a change easily as momentous as the industrial revolution, the formation of Islam, or the adoption of gunpowder.

At the moment, cultural expectations are still stuck in the year 1900: if you don't marry, you are a failure. (It bothers me that now even gay people are feeling social pressure to marry. )

It doesn't help our understanding that in most of the developed world, they have banned prostitution.

It's a question like: if there were bars that served cocaine, would anyone bother going to alcohol bars any more?

Part of the disapproval that is directed at men who go to whores comes from centuries of untreatable syphilis. From the renaissance to about WW2, men who frequented prostitutes very often died of syphilis and so did their wives. For that reason, we have an extreme intolerance of it, long after the disease ceased to become a death sentence.

In the countries where it is legal, men who go to prostitutes act as if it is illegal.

We will only ever know the answer to that question when it's 100% normal for guys to chit-chat about the bordello they went to last week in mixed company with no awkwardness.

I'd like to ask the married women: imagine you're at a party with your husband's friend and he starts talking about the prostitutes he fucked last week, making relaxed conversation. How long would it take for you to feel that is normal?

Apparently in 19th century France there was a type of woman called a grisette who was part-prostitute, part-girlfriend.

The man was usually well-off, and he definitely gave money, but there was also some element of emotion involved in the grisette-gentleman relationship.

I wonder how this would work in the modern day. Maybe a single chick who is with 5 guys who maintain her, and she shares her time between them.

You should remember, up until 1700CE, most people never, ever had sex with strangers. Everybody knew everybody else.

I doubt it would change anything. Men want company and they can't get it from prostitutes. If prostitution ends up being much more acceptable, the only thing I see happening is less ONS.

The flaw when it comes to TRP is that they believe that men work for sex when they meet women whose company they really enjoy. The reality is that they work for their companionship. If a man isn't attracted to a woman beyond her vagina, he won't see her worth of working for.
