It's because men are expected to be smarter and wiser, so when a man gets screwed over by a woman, it's his fault.

On the other hand, people expect women to be clueless, so it's a man's fault if she gets screwed.

Deep down everyone knows this, even women.

The actual answer is the bigotry of low expectations (which women don't seem to mind since they agree with deep down). It's just assumed men are supposed to able to see through whatever angle a woman is trying to run, and if he doesn't it's just his fault for being a fool. Meanwhile it's considered unfair to hold women to the same standard.

There's that line from The Godfather: ''women, children can be careless, but not men''.

Because women are seen as an "oppressed class" and men as the "oppressor class". So any swindling of the oppressor class by the oppressed class is seen as justice, "punching up", or men "finally getting what's coming to them".

Im not saying this is moral, what I believe, or even what most people believe but this is why the double-standard exists.
