My buddy and I were talking today about how many guys are afraid of getting married; they see few benefits, most marriages seem to fail, and they are terrified of the how the court systems have historically ruined many men financially. But most guys still yearn for the dream of getting married and having their own family one day.

Women these days are pulling ahead as the primary breadwinners now, and it’s likely to continue into the near future. Their incomes and assets are, potentially, just as at risk in the event of a divorce as men’s are.

Now, I’m not sure what marriage law is like under all 50 states, so, hypothetically...if you could have everything that comes from marriage EXCEPT the legal status (and the legal ramifications) - would you?

My buddy and I made a bet on what the majority of responses on here will say. Let’s see who won $5.

Update: welp, I won the $5 but I feel sick. There’s been a number of good reasoning for why women desire the legal part of marriage. I get it. I just didn’t realize the reasoning would be so...cold and calculated. TRP is right, women can’t love men as to how we define it. The women (here at least) have convinced me that whatever notions of love and romance they have, are nothing but a show in an effort to gain the commitment and security of a provider...and ultimately that’s all that matters. Men are only good for their utility.

Update #2: It seems a lot of people here think that, what I’m saying is, “all a woman really wants is a party.” If this is what you think the purpose of this thread was about, you’re woefully off the mark.
