I think cities with most wealth, innovation and culture are liberal because of trade. If you look at all the big cities in the world over the past 500 years, they have all generally been port cities and hubs of trade and shipping. This has always led to more concentration of wealth in these areas and more mingling of different cultures which has led to more liberal attitudes.

I personally love big liberal cities for the cultural diversity but I also tend to spend a lot of time in small conservative cities and town because I love the outdoors and there's better skiing and climbing in those places than a city like New York or London. So its half and half for me.

I like Seattle the most by far out of all the cities on that list. I also like Los Angeles (which was in a linked article in the article), just because there is a lot of shit to do there/awesome food.

Liberal for sure. Part of it is definitely because I'm liberal myself (our gay mayor of Seattle pardoned a Tofurkey for Thanksgiving and I think that's awesome). But liberal cities also tend to have better public transit and more diverse neighborhoods which I like. Most of the conservative "cities" on that list are glorified suburbs.

When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life. I miss the cosmopolitan big cities of Europe; Australia seems like such a conservative backwater when you come back home.

Colorado Springs is beautiful, has already passed laws on reforming social issues and doesn't have spiders and other pests. I'd love to retire there someday.

Liberal city. Conservative will just be harder to get an abortion etc, you can still get smashed for political incorrectness just as much as the liberal city, random people who cant help will just sympathize more. It's not like voting and political attitudes can trump genuine day to day incentives anyways, you won't get a RPW/unicorn just by living in Atlanta or whatever.

Another note. If you went back to Stalinist russia and made a list of the most Bolshevik cities in the country, they would all be the wealthiest, most cultured, innovative cities around. And yet we know Bolshevism to be an idealogy that actually stymies wealth, culture and innovation in the long run. Correlation does not equal causation. The idealogy which dominates the biggest cities, is not always the best idealogy around, or you'd have to accept that Nazism was the best idealogy around in Germany in the 1930s-40s.

I live in a liberal city in an extremely conservative state: the best of both worlds! It's like being able to talk about how much you love the homeless and riffraff while you enjoy your gated community :)

Conservative. I lived in a few liberal cities and they all suck money out of you so that they can make your life worse. Environmentalist would find ways of taxing you so that they can keep some trees alive and healthy; probably the same tree on the side of the road that you want bulldozed and paved over so you don't have to be stuck in traffic for god knows how long everyday. Feminist keep pressuring companies to give out childcare benefits. The cost, in most cases, gets passed on to the rest of the employee's by spending the money that would otherwise have been in everyone else's paychecks. Old buildings that should have been demolished for new apt complexes get preserved instead because the architecture has cultural significance. The result is that the amount of space meant for housing doesn't grow with the population and the rent goes through the roof. The list goes on and on, and they add up. For many of these liberal cities, after cost of living adjustments, you have people in liberal cities stressing at work 60+ hours/week and they are no better of than someone working casually for 40 hours in a conservative city.
