Statistically I'm shorter than you. I'm also not white.
I can either focus on these two things and complain incessantly, or I can get over them as I can't affect them in any meaningful manner and focus on what I could improve upon.
Yes, there's probably prejudice with race and height. But I'm reasonably successful and part of the reason for that success is that I don't wallow in what can't be changed.
For the reader: yes, you won't be part of the 0.01% but as sure as you are allowed to invest in dropbox one day, you can still make money and be richer than you were today.
the funny part is, if everyone spent their time trying to make their own lives better, the world would be a fine place, but everyone is too up in arms because someone had a bigger ham for christmas dinner and they want a few slices to balance it out.
Maybe it's just me but I don't see too many women working the same amount of overtime that men do in my profession. I can't imagine my wife pulling a 70 hour week like I sometimes do. She complains about being tired with 35 hour weeks and summers off.
But those people that make minimum wage loving there are making that choice. No one is holding a gun to their head and saying "you must live on Manhattan!" They choose to love there because they think it is worth the trade-off.
Like you said, we need convenience store workers and sandwich artists. If no one was willing to work for that trade-off, the wages would rise. They are what they are because that is how much people love living in NYC.
It also isn't very difficult to be a teacher in a lot of states. In WA you only need a two year degree or some kind of proof of education experience. I'm not the kind of person that would want to be a teacher though. If I had to I'd rather go to a trade school and be a carpenter/electrification/iron worker. I had a friend who became a welder on a dam project straight out of high school making near six figures.
You're not developing anything with a few IT certs though. If algorithms, data structures or mathematics are foreign concepts to you, you will never be a programmer. Tbh web development is a bit different because you can go quite a while without running into serious math... Not to say it doesn't exist. Even just modifying a basic chart plugin to do what I wanted took some math, I use set theory often for stuff like intersecting data sets, I've encountered countless race conditions where knowing a simple thing like releasing/consuming resources and event delegation saved tons of time.

Consider learning to code instead and skip the certs. I self taught from scratch and had a 60k job within two years that I upgraded nine months later to my current job (85k). I started at 22.
Well software and networking are relatively unrelated, aren't they? I want to set up and maintain networks/databases, not go into software development.
Yup. I dropped uni and picked up a trade. It's nowhere near what I would have made if I stuck with what I wanted from uni(comp sci) but for a 1 year investment into a trades college I'll be making +36/hr in 4 years(apprenticeship).
I figure I can just go back to uni whenever I want once I'm extremely financially stable. No plans on getting married or kids either so I'll be taking home bank. Not a fortune but it's definitely something stable.
yeah actually comp sci is the most easily accessible to learn trade there is.
All because people who had to struggle really hard in the past to pursue their passions want to make sure others don't have to struggle just as much.
From MIT putting out all their courses online for free(including videos), to raspberry pi making a an extremely inexpensive computer anyone can afford. Don't forget things like code academy either and the massive amount of help the community is willing to give to others.
As far as a high paying job goes, programming is definitely the most excellent one there is for accessibility.

I don't care if he / she is black, I'm just impressed they own a store at the age of 30 ish. Why do we have to take race and gender into account? It's completely irrelevant to a person's ability; mentioning it only makes me feel like you're more racist / sexist / whateverist. I don't go and look at a person and think 'wow, impressive, woman and pilot'. No, just 'wow, pilot'. I get I'm pretentious but that really bothers me.
My cousin got a degree in history/anthropology. She works as a receptionist currently. Still can't get a job in her field but she has $60k in loans making $25k a year. I dunno what she was thinking
Right, seriously. Girls out perform boys at primary and secondary education. Since the push to improve school result for girls we have gone from a testing environment that states 2+2=? and now asks "If Fiona has two apples, and get two more apples from Jenny, how many apples does Fiona have?". Test questions designed to influence the interpersonal skills of young girls and allow them to create a semi-social scenario in which to solve the question. So they are not being suppressed by testing standards.
Classrooms are so obviously intended to promote female behaviour with its rigid structure of rote learning and repetition alongside the ability for behaviour to influence the grades these children get, and obviously boys are not going to do as well there. Oh and arent like 75% of primary/kindergarten teachers female? So its not the teachers suppressing them either.
The results of girls overall in the UK are higher than those for boys, girls achieve more passing grades than boys.
Then comes higher education where, if memory serves, the UK and the US have approximately 60% female enrolment. So they are not being denied the opportunity due to restrictions of availability.
So testing your hypothesis against the previous points I made I can only say that your idea does not hold up to scrutiny.
Saying that men have things inherently easier in life because of their dicks is fine, but saying that men make more money because they pick more profitable careers means you literally hate women.
I mean, there's something to be said for that right there. Engineering and technology degrees are harder and everyone can't do it, maybe it should pay a bit more than a degree in ceramic arts or women's studies.
Goldin’s research has drilled down into this. Data she’s analyzed shows that lawyers and women with graduate business degrees start out relatively equal to men when it comes to pay, but the gap widens as women get older ― when life and babies intrude on career goals.
The whole point of the article is that as they work less, they are paid less. Is there something unfair going on that I'm missing?

A CS degree is still one of the best bang for buck degrees I can think of though. Those skills transfer across technologies that rise and fall fast.
