It's written by Lauren Libbert, a terrible "journalist".
Her last tweets:
Looking for women who have vibrated themselves slim with a vibrating gym machine. Can you help #journorequest #journohour
.
Looking for social media savvy women/bloggers with tonnes of followers who feel lonely in real life #journorequest #journohour

So she tweets to people to get them to give her information instead of her leaving her computer to go find information on her own? I guess for some stories it is helpful to get info from people on twitter, but if she's constantly doing that, then she is most definitely a lazy and unworthy journalist.

The joke was that she is saying half the time, but the article claims she only has to go without weekends. So obviously they can't do math and are making it seem worse than it is.
Apparently a 50/50 for a father is weekends only.

GIMME A FUCKIN MIC
THEY SAY ALL PEOPLE ARE EQUAL UNDERCOURT OF LAWW BUT YOU LOOK AT MI AND YOU LOOK AT THESE PARENTS IN COURT AND YOU SEE THAT NETHER ARE FIT LIKE ME. SEE THEIR NOT GENETIC FREAK UNCLES LIKE ME AND SO THEIR CHANCE GO DRASTICALLY DOWN.
SEA IN A NORMAL CUSTODY BATTLE YOU HAVE A 50/50 CHANCE OF WINNING BUT THEN YOU THROW IN A FREAK UNCLE LIKE ME IN THERE AND YOUR CHANCE GO DOWN. SO YA GOT A 33 PERCENT CHANCE OF WINNING AND I HAVE A 66 PERCENT AND 2/3 CHANCE OF WINNING. SO YOU TAKE YOUR 33 PERCENT CHANCE OF WINNING AND YOU MINUS MY 25 PERCENT CHANCE OF WINNING. BUT THEN YOU TAKE MY 25 PERCENT CHANCE OF WINNG AND WE GO ONE ON ONE AND THEN YOU HAVE A 33 PERCENT CHANCE OF WINNING AGAINST MY 66 PERCENT. YOU SEE THE NUMBERS DONT LIE AND THEY SPELL DISASTER FOR YOU AT CUSTODY COURT
SO TO ALL MY FREAKS OUT THERE, BIG PAPPA UNCLE IS YO HOOK UP HOLLAR IF YA HEAR ME

Or the kids are in school all day so it's about 50-50 time not including school or sleep. The article is BS; I'm just saying the math might not be BS.... 1 hour before school 4 after so 25h during the week, vs 2 days 12-13 waking hours each. 50-50! I'd rather have the weekends myself! Less cooking.

[–]Scientolojesus 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Fairness seems to be an actual enemy of the people writing articles like that...
[–]healthyspecialk 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
To be fair they are making an emphasis on the nights missed/cuddles. If that is a major factor in time spent with children then the mother still has the most meaningful time with the children.
[–]Andrew5329 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Came here to say this, between work and the kids in school weekdays aren't quite a wash, but they're definitely not the weekend.
IDK maybe split it so the weeknight parent keeps them every 3rd weekend or something.

I'm a father, so I get to chime in, right?
I'd be PISSED if I took care of my daughter all week and her mother got to have her every weekend.
Work/school nights exclusively with one parent and every weekend with the other is neither 50/50 nor fair.
I'd prefer to just have her 100% of the time. :)
[–]NOPACEYNO 258 points259 points260 points 7 years ago (33 children) | Copy Link
I have my son 100% of the time. The couple of times a year his mum calls or shows up for a day or two makes a mess of him.
But I swore he would never grow up blaming me for her fuckups, so she can come visit him anytime, or call him anytime, it's me who dials her number for him over half the time, I never say mean shit about her, he will figure that out himself eventually.
But she knows if she ever even mumbles the words 'shared custody' after she chose to leave, I'd send her back home in a fucking box.
[–]TooFakeToFunction 144 points145 points146 points 7 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link
The best thing my mom ever did for me was NEVER saying ANYTHING bad about my father and letting his actions speak for themselves. She would even get onto my aunts (his sisters) when they would start talking about him negatively in front of me. She would say "you can say those things as often as you want, as long as TooFakeToFunction isn't in your house."
And it worked. I think he is a giant fuck, and I came to that conclusion on my own based on his terrible actions and scarring memories he has bestowed upon me, not because she led me there.
[–]ThatSquareChick 42 points43 points44 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
My dad was a broken dude. He lost everything he ever cared about and spent the rest of his life miserable over it. When he would come home for visits (his parents adopted me, no custody involved) I would get to see him for less than a week. Mom did some pretty awful stuff to him, to his life, and he was still in love with her. He wished she was doing well and happy, even as he was sinking deeper and deeper into the bottle.
He passed nearly a decade ago, a relatively young man with an old, old heart and a destroyed liver. She still gets to go to the park and the movies. She gets to see sunsets and hear music. I feel so bitter because I'm supposed to love and forgive her, despite all she's done because of genetic material. I don't ever want to have anything to do with her or anyone else she birthed.
[–]Scientolojesus 14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
I hope your mother didn't actively allow your father to abuse you or act like a shithead when he had you, just so she could prove a point about his personality.
[–]TooFakeToFunction 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
No nothing like that. He is just a tool. The one night he did try to forcibly and drunkenly take me from her by cornering her in a parking lot she hopped the median and sped off to my grandparents house. I think I saw him once at Christmas after that with his family and then never again that I can recall. My mom is pretty bad ass. He was stalking our apartment out on weekends so we were with my grandparents every weekend, either the ones nearby or the ones further away and when she couldn't go because of work she would drop me off to spend the weekend there so I was safe.
[–]Scientolojesus 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Damn. Glad you made it out ok.
[–]TooFakeToFunction 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Hey I haven't even had it a quarter as bad as some others. I haven't seen my father since I was 6 or 7 and my mom was seeing my dad (step dad but he has always been my dad. Any schmuck can be a biological father, bit it takes commitment and live to be a dad) when I was about 4 and they married several years later in 97. Still going strong and I've never seen two goofballs more in love. My mom got the love and companionship she deserved and I got a great dad and new siblings out of it, so we are doing pretty well :)

I wonder what my sister's kids think of their worthless father. He lives with them (but hasn't had a job in 6 years and isn't on speaking terms with anyone in my family, among other complaints) but they can't possibly think the arrangement is normal.
[–]KHFanboy 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My mother did the same thing. NEVER spoke ill of my father in front of me. Everytime I went to his house, I was pulled into the garage and basically interrogated about how home life was, and how he could rip me away from her whenever he wanted. Called her a bad mother, his house was so much better etc. Then he acted all surprised when I finally told him to go fuck himself and I would never be doing visitation again. After that phone call, I was the happiest person in the world for that moment.
[–]MegaWolfy 27 points28 points29 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

[–]drfarren 68 points69 points70 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Pretty much. Why award custody to an adult with a stable income who is able to afford the things the child needs, provide a home, feed them, and so on when you can award to the woman based solely on the fact that she has a vagina.
Let the more fit and stable parent take custody regardless of gender and if both meet those requirements then an equitable solution should be met.
[–]xerovis 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
My goodness, you have hit the nail on the head.
When you leave kids in the custody of the useless one, guess who they turn out like.... It isn't that hard to succeed in life, get decent grades at school (requires a parent who cares about grades) and keep good friends (requires a parent who cares about who you are). When you leave them with the useless one the kids have a lifetime of bad habits to unwind (not to mention the trauma of realising you have a shitty parent), which is colossally difficult to deal with.
[–]drfarren 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
get decent grades at school (requires a parent who cares about grades)
I think it more apt to say a parent that cares about education and promotes a good hunger for learning and growing.

Vacations, travel sports, recitals, holidays, birthdays, family reunions, graduations, the list goes on and on. It doesn't stop and it's a constant negotiation. I see it happen where it becomes non-civil way too often. You know who suffers? Everybody. Everyone does. The kids, the parents, the families and friends. So much collateral damage in too many instances. Very sad.

That's what I was thinking. Having them weekdays while they do to school and you work, spending the nights making sure they do homework, that's nothing like playing on the weekends. I'm too tired to do anything during the week so playground visits and all happen on the weekend.

It's grammatically conventional that one-digit numbers should be written out and two-digit (or bigger) numbers should be expressed in figures.

My mother left when I was five, my brother six, and my sister eight. She moved to another state and didn't see us again for two years. It was 1975 - the year that no-fault divorce was introduced in Australia, and my parents were very poor, so there was no money to fight over and the divorce went smoothly. The judge was shocked that Mum wasn't contesting custody and that Dad wanted us full time.
It was unheard of in the 70s, so Dad had to manufacture a fiancee and promise to remarry. He never did, but kept us and tried to raise us as best he could. Mum has always been selfish, whereas Dad was rather selfless (going without food so we could eat, etc.)
I forgave Mum years ago, but my older brother and sister do not have a good relationship with her (or our half siblings) at all, and think I'm too soft and forgiving.
I've always been the family peacemaker, but I've been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer (I'm on a drug trial that might extend my life for a year or two), and I dread to think what what will happen when I die and leave some of my estate to Mum - she's struggling on a pension, whereas my brother, sister and I are comfortable). I think that my death will be then end of those relationships, as they're mostly centred around my illness.
Photos before and after the diagnosis if you're interested.

Seriously I give you my best wishes to the continued journey in your treatment. My mother herself has had an inoperable brain tumor in her brain stem for the past 15 years, and is on her 3rd battle with breast cancer. This time it's here to stay since it's a co-morbid metastatic diagnosis, the day to day fight is a marathon and you look amazing for what you've been through.

As someone who's dealt with death often, I will say get your will in order. I'm not sure about Australian law, but in the USA, People fight all the time when a family member passes, have an attorney make sure that your will is rock solid. Also, I would suggest you put a provision in there that states if someone contests the will and loses, they not only get nothing, but your estate will sue them for attorneys fees. That alone tends to knock off the stupid shit.
Regardless, hope you get better!

Hating people is tiring. It takes a toll on you mentally [and thus physically], and saps away your own happiness.
My mother also was a pretty selfish person; abandoned my siblings and I who were then raised by my father on his own.
For most of my life I hated her. Absolutely didn't want anything to do with her, and constantly despised having anything to do with her.
Recently, though, I just couldn't do it any more. Hating her has given me nothing but unhappiness in my own life. So, I just stopped. I haven't "forgiven" her, as such. But I don't hate her. Frankly, I hope she lives a happy life; because anything other than that doesn't change the past. I can only change my future.
Life's too short to hate.
You are a great person, really. I hope to have as much wisdom and courage one day as you have shown everyone else around you. Keep on living the way you wish others around you to live :-)
[–]ImMufasa 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's awesome that you were able to forgive her. I used to have bad issues with my parents but a friend gave me a great piece advice that even though I didn't believe at the time still stuck with me. He said that until you truly forgive them they'll always have power over you, I wish I realized sooner how right he was.

This isn't uncommon unfortunately. 2.5 years ago, my ex ended up in detox after a cocaine bender in which she left my son at her 90 year old grandmothers, stole hundreds of dollars from her, then left for 12 hours. No lunch packed for school the next day, no change of clothes, etc.
I was awarded an order of protection for 9 weeks. During that time she attempted suicide. When it came court time 9 weeks later, my judge decided she had "dried out enough" and gave my son right back to her. Drug problem and a suicide attempt. Think about that.

Disgusting. Its not even a man vs women issue, it's a child ethics issue. What the dad and mom want shouldn't matter, it should just be the best future for the child

You're right, it should. But that isn't how it works in Americas family court system. You do realize that the treatment of men in this system is large reason many men go MGTOW before they are stuck in said system. Those who are stuck in the system tend to believe that Men's rights are extremely lacking compared to women's.
Some of them realize that by engaging in a relationship and going the traditional route (moving in together, engagement, marriage, and maybe kids) is a large gamble that puts their financial freedom at risk. Those MRAs realize MGTOW is the route they should have gone and adjust their lives accordingly.
You, my friend, need to go back to the drawing board and do some actual research. It blows my mind that you think that this sub isn't frequented by MRAs or that the two are in any way incompatible. Use your head.
E: word or two.

"Tender Years Doctrine," dude...the misconception that young children do best in the care of the mother, no matter what.

My dad had something go to collections from a dental procedure where they ended up taking his tooth out after fucking up a crown 3 times in a row. He couldn't sleep for 3 weeks, and ended up owing near 3 grand when the original removal he wanted (which he was talked out of by his dentist of 15 years) was only around $250
In the COLLECTIONS letter from a LAW OFFICE - they included wording such as "obviously not willing to pay"
and "clearly not caring enough to try"

No, there are plenty of asshole mothers out there. And fathers live for those moments too. Historically they've been stripped away from far more fathers than mothers.

Its the Women Are Wonderful effect. People (especially women) assign positive attributes to women at a drastically higher rate even when it is completely undeserved. There was an informal experiment where a group of people observed a 20 year old girl teach some children how to do a task and a PHD child education specialist (male) then did the same. Almost universally the girl was rated as a better teacher and more effective with children.

I got curious....
Found this interesting Study: Teacher's gender affects learning that said students do better when they're matched with their gender and the teacher's gender. "Dee found that having a female teacher instead of a male teacher raised the achievement of girls and lowered that of boys in science, social studies and English. Looked at the other way, when a man led the class, boys did better and girls did worse."

[–]Karmadoneit 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I found another link, but now I'm mobile so I can't post it, that talked about the teacher gender crisis in k-8. My take away was that nobody wants male teachers because of molestation fears, but that having female only teachers both reinforces the thinking that teaching is a girl job, and that male teachers, presumably not the molesting variety, bring unique skills that have value at that developmental stage.
[–]DarthRegoria 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm a teacher, with lots of teacher friends. A few males I knew wanted to go into Primary teaching (k-6 here in Aust) but were worried about people's perceptions, being falsely accused etc, so went into secondary/ high schools (7-12). Only 2 of about 8 males teachers I know are in Primary Schools. The rest are high school teachers.
[–]Scientolojesus 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Hmmm that is interesting. While that makes me think there should be gender-matching classes, I still think boys and girls should attend the same schools because it helps with social skills and whatnot.
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I think schools should be segregated by gender. All public schools from kindergarten to 12th grade should be sex segregated. I've met too many female teaches who are bitches and bad at teaching.
All public schools at the present time are targeted towards women only. That's why men are falling behind, it's an estrogen cesspool that's why dudes can't learn cuz the people teaching them cant connect in any level physical or mentally. A woman can't teach a man how to be or think like a man just like a man can't teach a woman to be or think like a woman.
I'm sorry you have had to deal with bitchy teachers, but most subjects can be taught objectively and have nothing to do with genders, so they can be taught by anyone competent enough. I don't recall ever having a class from kindergarten through senior year where the teacher taught me how to "be or think like a man"... I really don't think the gender has too much of a negative effect, it's mostly the competence and skill of the teachers themselves.
[–]ImMufasa 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
While I don't agree with everything he said specifically there's definitely a problem of young boys being punished for being boys because of teachers not understanding their needs or natural differences. They rough house and need more physical stimulation than girls yet are expected to still sit at attention despite many schools shortening or even doing away with recess. These leads to outbursts that they're then punished for. I still remember the one male teacher I had in elementary school being my favorite because he was much more understanding and I performed better because of it.

As a teacher I have to point out that just because you know a lot about teaching that doesn't necessarily mean that you are a good teacher.
It's a performance job, and like other performers such as musicians, it's not always the ones that know a lot that are the best at doing it.
That said knowing about it certainly helps, and I have no doubt regarding the validity of the study you mention.

Same.
Numerous broken bones.
Molested by female teacher for 4 years. Told mom and she said it's not possible for a woman to do that.
Made me kill her pets for her when they got sick due to neglect. Before I was ten I had been forced to kill cats, dogs, cows, pigs, ducks and parrots with my bare hands. She would lock me outside until I had done it.
All the while she used the bible(fuck you autocorrect, bible does not deserve to be capitalized) to justify it all.
Meanwhile, Dad was loving and supportive. That is, he was every other weekend. I eventually went to live with him when I finally broke down and told him about all of it. When it went to court, she accused him of doing all of the things she had been doing to me. Despite my telling the truth, the judge still sided with her. He only changed his mind when I threatened to kill her if I went home with her. Had been living in the forest for about a year at that point. I was 13 at the time.

However, my mum wasn't any better. While she didn't directly abuse us, (me and my siblings) she didn't prevent any abuse either. She would get involved with some shitty dudes that would beat us, sexually abused my sister, and generally just shitty.

Yes there are. I know a dude who had 2 kids with his fiance. He loves them very much. The mother, on the otherhand, convinced him to set up a joint checking account and started transferring small sums of money to her account. Then she used his information and started taking out loans and credit cards in his name. Then she left in the middle of the day with their children. He found everything out and has only been able to get joint custody. The police refuse to file a report over her taking loans out in his name, even though he has evidence, and a confession from her, that she had done so. The children are being used against him, even though he has a job, she's an unemployed felon for committing fraud (shocked, I'm sure). She's definitely getting a pussy pass by the system, and it's fucking ridiculous.

Apparently, the law kind of assumes the mom will be getting primary custody too. Friend of mine left her husband and he had to "fight" for weekends or whatever. Alimony was also assumed to go from dad to mom. PLUS growing up, my divorced friends always were with mom primarily, and in the house (dad moved out)

In 2003, I was involved in a custody battle with my ex-girlfriend for my three and four year old. I was twenty-six, a college grad with my own place, and no criminal history, but the judge allowed her to move out of state to be with her immediate family some 1544 miles away. I was ordered to pay $1600 / month not including the airfare for visitation (only vacations) and half of all costs examples: Co-payments, clothes, school supplies etc. I was told time and time again that's just how it is in California; that courts just choose the mothers. I hated hearing this. And every time I heard it, it made me angrier. I saved what I could for a year and began to fight. Eight years and ~$62,000 in legal fees later I won them back but only because of their declining health and slipping grades finally showed a judge there needed to be a change. I was broke, but I had my children, and we could start over. Did I receive anything in the form of support? Very little, but I didn't care.
I'm still bitter over this, and every time I see an article about a poor mother who cries over split custody make me want to smash my computer monitor. Did I start saving the money I was saving from child support? No, but I continued to spend (invest) it on my children. My oldest is now about to graduate from the private school I put both of them in and is college bound. I still sometimes fantasize having a one on one TALK with the original judge who thought the kids would be better off 1544 miles away from their father.
EDIT: I know $62,000 is a bargain in legal fees, but the way I see it, it wasn't money that went directly to the children. Family court is designed to suck money out of all parties involved.

If you're in Florida you should be ok. I've down family cases between Miami, Tampa and Daytona. Most judges want parents to have 50/50 with children over the age of six provided the parents live within twenty minutes of each other. I had a gay client who married his best friend back in 2005, had two kids with her, she met someone and wanted to split to a different state with the kids. We fought like hell for a year and a half but the Dad has every other week and four straight weeks in the summer.

I halted my relationship with my current SO during my divorce. My lawyer recommended it and some internet searches comfirmed I should. The jist was that I could be seen as endangering my child by having a "strange" man around. My ex didn't have to worry about that though, there was nothing saying that it would look bad to have another woman actually living with him. I can understand it to an extent, court obviously thinks a guy who is not his birth father may overpower me and do any number of things to my son but that goes right along with the "all men are just rapist looking for opportunity" idea. I guess they just don't see an average woman that way which is horse shit because any woman can just as easily snap and hurt a kid even with the dad there. On top of things, there's a clause that can be put in the papers that says not a single other person can ever sleep in your house if your kid is there. I see the point of this too but it limits you from ever being able to have a roommate to help with bills or have any SO move in with you. My ex didn't have to worry about any of that because our son wouldn't be sleeping at his house and court didn't mind him having another woman around him so him having a live in girlfriend didn't hurt him at all.
My SO understood so we broke it off for a year while my divorce was finalized, you may want to consider the same thing.

I love reading things like this it reinforces my belief and understanding that women suck and courts suck as well.
I'm aware you are a woman but I'm just saying I'm a dude so I can only relate to being with women.
Anyways my plan is to get a sorugate from a third world country and after the kid is born I will leave with my kid and never ever see her again.
Also to your comment about women easily being bitches it's true my step mom was a total cunt. If I knew then what i knew now I would have probably killed her but luckily i didn't.
My advice to any parent is watch out for your step mom/step dad they can get away with a lot of shit cuz you love them and are blinded by puppy love.
My step mom beat the shit out of me a few times and treated me like shit. Who picks on a damn 6-8 year old only weak people. She also confessed to me that she was using my dad for money but my dad was a total simp worthless motherfucker who is currently an alcoholic working just to pay for beer, pathetic. Jesus christ the thought of a child having the courage to ask a teacher for help, like we've all been taught to do, only to have it completely backfire...
If that doesn't instill a lifelong cynicism and suspicion of the system I don't know what does

Fight with my ex wife, fortunately had a good ole boy southern Baptist judge who didn't take kindly to a cheating, drug using partner running out one day. I got the house, all but the oldest car, custody with every other weekend visitation for her, AND she paid me child support.
Also, 20k in legal fees, but worth it.
[–]Neckrowties 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You actually got child support? Isn't that quite rare, even when the father gets custody?
[–]Namoric 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Very rare from what I hear. It was only like 250 a month or so, but it went into a savings account for him and bought him a decent car at age 18 and paid for some if the college.

You are not alone. My parents split when I was 14. My dad was forced to give up to an 80/20 split in time with me and my 2 siblings (obviously 20% was his). Plus paying 560 a week to my mother ($2,426 a month). Luckily I was old enough to choose my permanent parent, choosing my father, while he still voluntarily still paid the same amount. And paid it till my 9 year old brother reached 18. Basically my father paid for two house mortgages, both his and my mothers. So that my siblings and I wouldn't experience too much of a difference between our court governed housing time when with either my mother or my father. My dad worked his ass off to meet this demand and in no way did my mother work to make up the court decided amount for her to "go back and get her degree" since she was taking care of the kids. The court system is fucked. But it's slowly getting better. Just know your experience isn't unique, many fathers are dealing with the same. OH and for the fault for the divorce, my mother was having any affair with a "family friend" who divorced his wife, for my mother.

Im glad my custody battle went much different. She a agreed to full joint custody because her lawyer advised her that fathers lose interest in being a parent in a couple of years. Unfortunately for her my father was just such a father and I swore I would always be a better father than he was. So from the time he was 2 I had him 3/7 days. SHe was a good person and a good mother its just that I am a good person and father as well. Every kid and parent should be able to put there kids interest first like this. Not only did we both have a mostly complete family life with our son. We were both also part time parents which gave you some free time for yourself that other parents don't get. Until you have more kids.

Women once held the upper hand in custody battles
At the expense of children being awarded to the parent that doesn't care about them as much as the father. How many times have we all heard about the family relative/friend going through divorce because his wife with no job or a minimum wage entry level part time job starts cheating on him with some loser while Dad is busting his ass at work every day to make ends meet, then coming home and still being loving and involved in the kids lives, helping them with homework, teaching them life lessons etc... while mom is "out with her friends" getting her brains fucked out. Then after dad finds out he still wants to be civil but she cries divorce and takes half of his shit that she did nothing to earn, and leaves him with her credit card debt in return. All this on top of the court saying "mom gets the kids because vagina, who gives a fuck about how she behaves."

Yes, Iowa here, my son's mother by court ruling has no custody and has to pay $100 a month. He is now 7 and I haven't seen a penny. It took my over $30k to get the judge to see the truth.

I always see people saying things like this, included my current girlfriend. Her dad didn't pay child support for years.
How? I just don't understand. If my child support(which comes out of my check automatically, the same exact time every two weeks) processes late(which it does all the fucking time because illinois is a joke of a state) they threaten to garnish my wages to take the extra 18 dollars I owe for being late. How in the world can you not pay child support and the government doesn't rain firey hell down on you?

When a parent chooses not to file with the state. It is small insurance to not have her take me back to court for some frivolous claim when she gets a hair up her ass.
YES that means you could do the same. If you pay child support and aren't happy....by all means go back to court, thats what my psycho ex did for years until she got the final smackdown in court.

Feminists like to pretend that this issue affects men and women equally. It's an issue that hurts men in an overwhelming majority of cases. They have to try to co opt it because they believe in a patriarchy and anything in society that treats men unfairly is made up.
[–]EnigmaGuy 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not the OP however the courts did go after my mother for child support when my dad finally got custody of my brother and I.
He never pushed the issue, wanted nothing to do with her but think it was actually the state going after her. If I'm not mistaken I believe a portion of the child support goes to Friend of the Court which would explain why they went after her.
She called me a few times to try to talk him into taking time off work to go downtown and sign a waiver of sorts to get them off her back. He laughed hard every time. Not sure what ever came of that to be honest, it's been years since I've spoken to her.

[–]GaleHarvest 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
You misquoted this, or as read it implies mothers outnumber fathers owed child support. To clarify for all reading this.
"In 2011, America’s custodial fathers were owed a total of $1.7 billion and custodial mothers were owed $12.1 billion(keep in mind, moms who are owed child support outnumber dads almost 9 to 1).Sic"
This should be read, as women are awarded child support 9x more often than men.
For more info, Men are only receiving child support 28% of the time they are awarded any custody, while 52% of women are ordered to receive child support.
So, women get the child more often(unknown? Could be 50/50), and get awarded child support twice as often.
In summary, if 10 fathers and 10 mothers were put in a room, chances are
9 mothers get child support
1 father gets child support
[–]DynamicDK 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm hoping to be on the receiving end of that in the near future. I am a man with custody of my son, and his mom hasn't even been in the same room as him since 2014. Our original custody agreement gave her a pass on child support until November of 2016. In November I filed to get child support started, but I have been stuck waiting on some documentation from the state where the original order was issued. Yesterday I finally managed to get this, and will be dropping it off at my local child support office today. That should be enough to get a court date set, and at that hearing the child support should be determined and ordered.
Let's see if it all works out.
[–]Nuttin_Up 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

How many times have we all heard about the family relative/friend going through divorce
I just want to chime in here because I know a guy who constantly used to give me a sob story about how he couldn't get full custody of his kid because the judges kept siding with his drug addicted ex. Then one day his ex got arrested driving under the influence with the kid in the car. They took her to jail and her parents picked the kid up from the local PD.
I was like, "great dude! this is your chance! No way the judge can deny you now"
But then this happened. I'd constantly ask him how it was going. He'd say, "oh my lawyer is taking a while, yea he sucks right?". And I'm like, "fire his ass!". I offered to refer him to my lawyer, who's pretty good AND has reasonable rates AND my friend makes good money so he could easily afford him. I offered to hit up a friend of mine, who is a lawyer who used to work with the state government with the DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. She knew all the ins and outs of the stuff. She would have told him what he could do immediately to get the courts aware of his ex's arrest, what happened to his kid, all for free. I mean the dude's lawyer was taking his sweet goddamn time but these things need to be dealt with as soon as fucking possible.
But this guy kept declining my offers to help. He still has 50/50 custody with his ex. Honestly, at this point when I look back, I think he doesn't really care. His kid is well past the cute stage, he's at an age when kids start getting mouthy. He's got a new wife with a new cute little toddler. I think he just likes telling people that the courts screwed him so they'll feel sorry for him.
FWIW, in my state, I've had my own custody battle and felt that I was treated fairly by the courts.
TL;DR for years a guy I knew told me sob stories about getting screwed by the courts but then I found out he has a shitty lawyer he refuses to fire and probably just doesn't care about getting custody.
[–]GrizzlyLeatherBut I dindu nuffin!!! 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That certainly may be the case for your buddy, but what I described was my uncle's divorce to a T. He now has full custody and both my cousins agree that was the right choice the court made. After he got full custody his ex started telling the kids that he wasn't their biological father etc... And he consoled them telling them he's not going to do paternity tests that no matter what they are his kids and that he loves them etc...
It sounds like he got a fair shake in the end.
In my case I got 50/50 custody. My ex is a hateful bitch from hell... but if I'm being honest she doesn't do drugs or even drink, and is generally a responsible adult.
When the process started I know for a fact that she bought into all the folklore about Mom's getting catered to and thought she'd have her way with me in court. She was in for a rude awakening.
I don't know how it is in other states, but I can say that in mine if you're a responsible dad with a halfway decent lawyer you will get treated fairly by the courts.
On that same note, I know a guy in a very similar circumstance. I work with him so I know that he makes good money and has proven himself time and time again as a responsible person to land and maintain the job we have. His ex doesn't work and has been with a gentleman that likely abused his son. She checked herself into rehab and signed over power of attorney to her abusive husband who I believe was arrested shortly after, making it to where my coworker could care for his some while they were disposed. He lawyer'd up and has taken his child to regular psychiatric visits... he has showed me recordings of his son lashing out in extreme ways over little things... he is well beyond the cute stage, yet he fights for him. He looks after him. AND, he still loses sleep over whether or not he is going to have to give his son back.
His uncle retained custody of his child a few years back and before the cops showed up to change custody, she executed the child. It was a big deal in the local news.
These are real fears that fathers have.

Exactly my story. My wife was a stay at home mom, no income, but plenty of time to fool around while the kids were in school. Ended up fucking her pot dealer... and eventually leaving me for him. She cries in court and tries to elicit sympathy, judge looks her straight in the eye and says "I don't believe you, you're selling drugs and making money." Looks at me and tells me I presented a good case. Verdict? I get two weekends, get to pay child support and alimony. I couldn't believe it. The kicker? She gets busted and gets five years. It still took me a year to stop the payments. I paid my ex child support and alimony while she was incarcerated! Gotta say it worked out for me in the end though. Nothing better than a ex in jail.

I had a teacher a in high school make a comment "my house is always so busy, it's me, my husband, my ex husband and his wife and all of the kids... pretty full house"
Of course high school kids being what they are we had the reaction of "your ex stays with you for Christmas with his new wife?". She matter of factory said "yes, him and I didn't get along, but we had kids, we have a commitment to those kids, and on big occasions it's way better that we all have the same experience rather than everyone get half of one." It really struck me over how rational the simplest solution is. All it requires is you be an adult and bite your tongue every once and a while for your kids.

Because my parents have been split since I was two years old (I was an accident, I wasn't meant to happen, I know) and since they were never married, they didn't do any of this custody-divorce shit, and just moved house while I went to the other house on the weekend then on Wednesday, effectively spending half the week with either parent. After our divorce, my ex appeared on my doorstep with our daughter and her clothes, and told me that she could not take care of her anymore. And just like that, she left. We had no custody agreement at the divorce, so a couple of years later, I filed for full custody. The ex did not contest it and the filing was amended to uncontested. So I get a couple of character witnesses and head to court. The judge refused to believe this was uncontested. He stopped the proceedings, had people try to call and locate her, and at the same time, search the courthouse for her. Some hour and a half later, and after the character testimony of a lawyer friend of mine, the judge wanted to postpone judgement so he could have another day to try to reach the ex. But my attorney said there is no reason for that, the custody is uncontested, the father is a fit parent and the character witnesses' testimony is solid. You'da thought he was signing his own life away, the way he acted, but the judge signed it, then threatened to have me checked on every month, and said he would reverse his ruling if the ex appeared and even verbally contested it. Jeez...

There's another post on the front page as well of this screenshot from earlier today. It's a shit article from the Daily Mail, a right wing publication that perpetuates the idea that a woman should be primary caregiver. It is not a feminist publication by any stretch of the imagination.
Horseshoe theory. Super right wing conservative push shit like this and feminists don't fight for equal custody rights resulting in shit like this.

I'll be honest, I felt this way when my son's father and I split. "I'm his mother, I should be with him more it's only natural." blah blah blah. Then slowly I started realizing 2 things: 1. If I really love this kid I need to admit he needs a father just as much as a mother. 2. I kinda liked the free time that I got when he was at his dad's house. Maybe that second one is a questionable reason but oh well. Unfortunately his father passed away last year so I'm a single parent anyway.
[–]javamcjugg 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I raised my boys, as a father, while my workaholic ex started her store with her "business partner"
I was at first pretty pissed when I only got 50% custody. But, like you, I totally agree....regardless of how painful it was to not have the kids around it's good for the kids to spend time with their mom.
I don't begrudge half time. I don't think anbody should.
[–]jadams2201 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
As a father of a child that has split from the mom I live this nightmare. The women still have a big time advantage over men. Enough is enough, we're not all dead beats and the women aren't all bitches. 50/50 until 1 parent proves they can't handle it
[–][deleted] 29 points30 points31 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Fuck you lady, men are just as important in a child's life as women. Maybe that's why you lost your husband, you showed him no respect and treated like he was less than you. Maybe you'd still have a man in your life if you did something with that hair.
[–]FlameSpartan 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]one_egg_is_un_oeuf 24 points25 points26 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is anything but feminist. The Daily Mail is very traditionalist - the "men should not be primary caregivers" argument has a flip side, and that's what they're really advocating: a woman's role is to look after her children, and any woman who does not have children or who is not their primary caregiver has failed as a woman. Enforcement of gender roles is both anti-women (good for nothing but being a housewife) and anti-men (can't possibly be trusted with caregiving responsibilities).

I pick up my son every weekend and 99% of the holidays. I show up and me, my son, my ex and her boyfriend have lunch and a cuppa. We natter for an hour or two. If I'm late getting back or the weather's bad I stay in their spare room. When we get to my house my son texts his mum to say he's arrived. It's pretty simple really. We all buy Xmas and birthday gifts for each other and basically behave like ordinary, rational human beings. The weird thing is that my family and friends and her family and friends find this to be disgraceful behaviour and their advice is always to encourage hatred, division and arguments.: "Tell him if he doesn't give you more money he can't see him.", "If he's late don't answer the door", "Dont let her in the house and keep her on the doorstep." are just a few examples of the wonderful advice we've gotten. Invariably the advice of others is totally piss poor and should be ignored at all costs.

I don't support a lot of the mrm, but I do support the alimony, visitation, and child support reform ideas. You shouldn't get a free check every month for being married to somebody then it ending, that's lunacy.
[–]burkechrs1 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The check really isn't for the mom. 100% of the money is legally meant to go to the child. It's when the parent doesn't spend the money on the kid that issues occur.
I have a friend that went through this with his ex-wife with their kid. He was paying roughly $1500 every month and the kid was starving, wearing clothes he'd long outgrown, all around living a bad life. She also moved the kid out of state (legally) so he couldn't really go and "fix" the problem himself. He made a few trips out there but all around his hands were mostly tied. He ended up taking her to court, getting full custody of his kid, and she now needs to spend the next 10 or so years paying back every penny of child support he gave her on top of what she is supposed to be paying herself (~$1100/mo.)
The only way he was able to make that happen was by getting copies of her bank statements and proving that the money never went to the kid. He was able to point out that every time one of his checks was cashed she'd end up spending all the money on clothes or trips or whatever shortly after the funds cleared. He was also able to point out that there was not a single "kids store" on over 2 years of bank statements so it was pretty obvious she didn't buy the kid anything. That was enough to convince the judge.

According to most reports this isn't PPD material. My question is how is it not? Females have for decades used their pussy pass to possess full custody (or majority) of the children during the divorce. They have also used their pussy pass to get loads of child support and then abuse it for their own selfish needs. So dads actually getting to see their children after a divorce is in my opinion PPD.
Reports: 1: You sound like a weak ass bitch
Says the guy who rather anonymously report it than to actually say it in the comments.
[–]80234min 25 points26 points27 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I didn't report it (here from /r/all) but I'm guessing it's being reported because the article is very thinly-veiled rage bait. It's written by the Daily Mail, and is clearly presented in a way to make the woman look as terrible as possible (easy to do because this position is idiotic). The DM is not exactly what you'd call a feminist or progressive publication, so it clearly isn't trying to compel the reader to take this woman's point seriously. On top of that, the Daily Mail doesn't exactly have the best track record for unbiased or factual reporting, as it's basically just the UK's National Enquirer, except more political.
If this article is even portraying a real person's perspective, it's an article that was written specifically to spark outrage, because controversy sells. Is that not incredibly obvious?
There are real situations in which women are given preferential treatment (especially in custody cases), those stories are numerous. This is just one scenario that if it even happened (I have reasonable doubts, it's the Daily Mail, after all), it's written in such a clearly biased way that the article is pretty much pointless. Maybe if the sub is to be taken seriously, it might want to weed out the rage bait articles like this.
[–]HannasAnarion 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
What this guy said. The very concept of PPD means it needs to tread lightly, there are certainly times where hypocritical moments need to be pointed out in our mutual fight for equality, but this piece is obviously designed to stroke the anti-woman rage-boners of /r/trp and their ilk.
[–]returnofthrowaway 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I wasn't aware they made the laws that gave them custody more often. Not everything that went or continues to go in the general favor of women is something to hate women for. I know this is the wrong sub for it, but at some point you need to move past finding out who to blame for things (or not caring who the proper target is, like in this case) and actually try to fight them. Bitching at women in your safe space here makes you no different than the slacktivist sjws you so hate. Look at the top posts of feminism sub and mens rights sub. They call out their own group and at least try to organize and push for things. Mensrights posts antifeminism memes and little else. You want others to fight for you? Start working. Stop bitching.
[–]one_egg_is_un_oeuf 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link
These are laws made and enforced for many years in what has traditionally been a very male judiciary (UKSC currently only has 1 woman, a fair reflection of the state of the profession many years ago) because of the antiquated and outdated notion that women belong in the home and that it's natural and normal for them to be caregivers (and so unnatural and abnormal for men to be - that's the agenda this article is pushing and it's disgusting). Have women exploited this view for custody of their children? Of course! People of every gender can be entitled twats.
But I can tell you right now that if I had kids and ended up with 50/50 custody, you can bet people like this dickbag of an author would be calling me a bad mother for "not being around" and my ex partner a wonderful dad just for doing the bare minimum.
Fortunately I don't have kids so instead I just get called selfish.

Unfortunately in most cases the Women only thinks of herself. The great feeling of control they get from keeping a father from their children. I'm a father that has gone through the system and was beaten down by the stress that comes along with it. The system still does favour the mother but it has been getting better. My advice to any father is take parenting classes before you even go to court do everything you can and keep all documents. Write dates times of everything and anything and keep them for the courts. Never lose your cool in the courts always be calm. I was so stressed but when I went inside and it was time for me to talk I was calm and prepared. Never trash talk the mother in front of your kids. I went from not seeing my daughter to having to pay for supervised visits because of the lies that were told by her about me. My heart was absolutely broken from my rights as a father taken from me. I never gave up and eventually I was awarded full custody of my daughter. You have rights as a father.

Rant incoming.....
I hate how these articles pedestal motherhood like it's A) the hardest job in the world and B) of the utmost importance to all women everywhere. Personally, unless you get knocked up because you weren't having safe sex or choosing to abstain so that you don't end up with an unwanted pregnancy, I fail to see the attraction of planned parenting in general. "Every mother lives for those small, joyful moments when her child masters something new - reading a book, telling a joke, eating new food..." - REALLY? That sounds boring AF. Who would want that life?
These people need to get a hobby or learn a skill. I get it, it's the socially acceptable thing to do with your life and so it's also the path of least resistance, but have some balls (or whatever the female equivalent is) and carve your own path. You always hear girls moaning about how there's not enough female presence in board rooms or science labs. Well it's not the 1950s anymore so what's stopping you?!! It's a cliched adage but "BE the change you want to see in the world" and yes that might mean - heaven forbid - straying from the same tired path that all your high school facebook friends have gone down of popping out a couple of rugrats and registering for MumsNet.
You could have DONE something with your life, you could have actually bettered humanity, but you were too scared so you just had kids and now you "live for small, joyful moments", well that's fine but give the bleeding female heart game a rest. Some of us are out here trying to achieve things that matter, and we can't hear you through the piles of disposable income anyway......

That's exactly how fathers feel when women always get the children. It should be equal rights for both. Not all mothers are loving and nurturing.
[–]mrlowe98 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
PLEASE tell me this is satire. Even if it's a lie... just tell me it is. For the love of God.
I'd bang the mom.
[–]Jyiiga 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh pleaseeeee. Some women want equal rights. Other women just want every advantage they can cheat, lie and cry their way into.

This burns my ass honestly. I hate this mentality that men are shitty parents who don't deserve to be in their kids lives if divorce occurs.

Single father here. Without going into too many details, I've had to fight for custody of not one but both of my children as they have different mothers. My son is almost 15 and Ive had custody of him since he was approximately six months old. My daughter is fixing to turn nine and I've had custody of her for the past four years. It cost me over $30,000 to get custody of my daughter and a three-year court battle but it was worth every penny and I thank God every day for the blessing of having both my children in my life and that I get to see them every day .

Wish it was like that here. (equal)
My ex was gone for over a year, saw the kid maybe 40 minutes total in the time. Suddenly my ex decides she does not like my girlfriend and now I molest kids and her, I rape our daughter and her, she accused me of so much crap.
I lost my custodial rights and only got weekends. So basically I have no say in raising my daughter anymore because all I was awarded was parenting time on weekends.
Thankfully they threw out the restraining order and I didnt lose my daughter, my right to bear arms, to drink and quite a few other provisions that the restraining order would not let me do.
But yeah, she was gone almost 2 years, (never any overnights) came to visit one day, I go to the bathroom, come back and they are gone, cant find them for 2 weeks, put out missing children fliers and all that. It was about that time I found out, unless you have full rights of your kid in paper from the court, your ex can totally kidnap them and there is nothing you can do about it. I figured out what happen when I got the restraining order papers delivered about 2 weeks later.
But yeah, no job, no home, suspected drug user, no place to live, gone for over a year, nothing to do with the kid and supports it 0. Judge awards her 85% of the parenting time and full custodial rights.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that any feminist would be horrified by this piece. The whole point of feminism is equality, judging people by their merits, not what's between their legs and all that, while utterly rejecting the stereotype of woman as first parent and homemaker.

"Faces the trauma" Come the fuck on. My parents are divorced and they have a bi-weekly schedule with me and my brother. Does my mom or dad bitch about it?? First off, l just wanted to point out that one side of my family doesnt see me for an entire week and they are satisfied with this. This woman is getting ~22 days a month with her children and has a problem with not having weekends? I know that either side of my family would kill to have all weekends with me. Wtf am i saying, I sound like I'm putting myself on a golden pedestal. Ugh.

Like all social issues, people want equality which really means trying to destroy/erase the other side.
And when equality is really achieved, then they complain. I can't wait for all those white people to hand out their privileged jobs to their non-white friends they care so much about. Nah I don't think it will happen.

[–]FlaminglingFlamingos 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I'm not a person to be "triggered" by shit on the internet, but this definitely does it. My parent's divorce was finalized when I was five years old, and of course, my mother won the custody battle over my dad. Original arrangements were that my brother and I were to see my dad on Wednesday nights and every other weekend. If my mother granted permission to my dad, my brother and I could spend longer weekends with him or go on week long vacations with him during the summer. Fast forward to when I am 15, I now have a step-dad of eight years (never was legally my step-father, because my mom and him weren't married when I lived with them). This was when my mother flew off the fucking metaphorical wagon and went pretty much bat shit insane and my step-father was no better. I lived in an emotionally and physically abusive household for almost eight god damn years. My step-dad never hit me, but he threatened me plenty of times and never had the best words to say to me. My mother was the one who felt inclined to closed fist punch me in the face on a few occasions. But my real dad? That fucking man was there any chance he could get to spend time with his two sons. He drove 5 hours every other weekend to come see us (he remarried as well to my current stepmother, who is awesome, and moved to Wisconsin with her which was a five hour drive from where my brother and I lived). But even with that distance, he still made it his life to be our dad and to help us through what he could. He didn't know the extent of what I went through until I told him when I turned 17. I owe my dad everything. I don't plan on having children, but if I did, I could only fucking hope that I could be half the parent he has always been to me. Not all mom's are bad like mine was of course, but not all dads are beat dead losers. It absolutely pains me to read shit like this, implying that all mother's are saints, when I first handedly experienced the opposite scenario.
[–]Dannibiss 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Hey man I completely agree and had a similar situation albeit not as bad. the worst part of ot all is that my dad feel still feels bad or guilty because he think he's wasn't there for enough for us when in actuality it was the opposite. It was only a year or 2 ago he had finally completed paying child support(youngest turned 18) and when he got the piece of paper saying he was done with it he got it framed.
Fucking proud of my dad.
[–]DontmindthePanda 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
"Hey girls, we finally achieved equal rights!" "Yaaay!... Wait, does that mean, men got the same rights as we have?" "I think so, yes?" "Nonononono... That can't be right, that wouldn't be... Fair!"
Yeah. And the dad's that only see their children on the weekend? Yeah. Fuck them.

Just a cunt thats mad her husband won less than 1/3 of the time she would be spending with her kids, which are also his. And shes just mad he actually win time with them to begin with. You all know there are evil fucks out there in an attempt at getting back at their ex, try to take whatever they have, including kids from them. She's not happy with winning the majority of the custody of their kids, she wants them all to herself to get back at him and this article is making such a huge fucking fuss/over-reaction over it.

[–]ScaryBilbo 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you listen closely you can hear the faint sound of feminists saying "This isn't the equality we wanted."
The worst thing is that a lot of women posion their children against their own dads because of their selfish bitter hatred.
That ruin the relationship the father has with the kids, but they also deny their children a relationship with their own father, and give them a twisted perception of men.
I hate how society assumes any mother is a good mother, where as most just throw an iphone in their kids face and hope they raise themselves.
