Definition of humility (Webster)

: freedom from pride or arrogance : the quality or state of being humble

(My definition) Humility is thinking of yourself less. Humility is not thinking of yourself as less.

Philippians 2:3-8 (NKJV) Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Just some thoughts from an 'off-the-cuff' bible study last night.

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. - God wants us to be concerned with others salvation/their relationship with Him. If we're too concerned with ourselves, and our interests, how can we be making disciples?

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus... - Be like Christ.

...who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God... – Jesus knew He was God, but He didn't cling to it, or hold it up as something He might lose, or put it on a pedestal. He was secure in that knowledge. Likewise, we should be secure in our knowledge of who we are in Christ, and also in RP terms - that we are the prize.

...but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men, And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. - We should be so secure in our frame, in our knowledge of who we are in Christ, and as a RP man, that we should not put ourselves on a pedestal, (like you see people doing in the secular RP) but rather be humble, and be willing to serve, because we are strong. But not out of compulsion aka, because our wife or churchianity says we have to, but because we want to, as a man.

(1 Peter 5:2) Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.
