The dumbest part of the article is that he didn't even discuss 1 Corinthians 7 about staying single for God is better than being married.

To be fair, there are some legitimate points to what he is saying but his justifications are terrible. He's embroiled in the culture trying to use it to justify his own worldly thoughts.

To be fair to the author, this goes way beyond intentionality. First dates are taken way too seriously in Christian culture. When you go on a first date, the objective should be to decide if you want to go on another one. During subsequent dates, you decide if you should get engaged, and if not, break it off. That's where the intentionality is, not in thinking you should get engaged from day one. If you've already decided you should get engaged, you should just get engaged.

Requiring certainty of engagement for a date is utterly absurd, and I'd be willing to say that even requiring certainty of another date before going on a date is absurd.

I agree this article is trash, and I think that can be summed up by identifying the projection in the title: "Have Christians Turned Marriage Into An Idol?"
