Any books on how to give advice/be there for someone/ build emotional attatchments?

The only book I've read that somewhat deals with this kind of thing is Codependent No More by Melody Beattie. It's more of trying to fix oneself with their emotional boundaries and not let others influence them as much, as well as building a foundation of how to be there for people without over reaching on your part.

In order to be able to give advice and/or 'be there' for someone, you've got to be whole yourself. The 'Codependant No More' option is a great read. The 'Boundaries' books by Cloud and Townsend are in a similar vein with a Christian slant.

If you're looking to 'be there' for someone, then that could be treading on the White Knight territory. Don't go there out of neediness or validation seeking.

I personally like "The Art of Communicating", by Thich Nhat Hanh.

It talks maybe 20% about communication, and 80% how to be a more caring human being. I even used to to save a relationship once, all by using one of the many exercises in there.

Just in case you're in need of some advice regarding how to care for someone, just remember to "water the good seeds". That means, only say and do things that make your person feel understood. They don't need to be analyzed, they just need to feel their emotions validated and not be called crazy directly.
