OK this is my little bit of advice.

Don't get caught up in the hype.

We are part of system that wants you to spend as much money as possible on as many things as possible. There will always be someone trying to persuade you that you need to buy a new skin cream, hair product, make-up item and that you need 3 products to do the job where one, or none, will do.

Keep it simple
Find 1 - 3 hairstyles that flatter you and you can do in a few minutes. For most people, longer hair is easier and cheaper to maintain.
A simple make-up routine with a few products is better and looks classier, especially as you get older.
Expensive does not equal effective.
Don't do something just because it's fashionable.

I just heard about Lisa Eldridge and I immediately loved everything about her. Calm (no 'bigger than life' personality), measured about how much make-up to use (in the video I linked she literally tells you that every inch of your skin doesn't need to be caked with foundation etc). I appreciate the mindfulness she brings to the table, and the fact that she tells you things to consider so that you can optimize your look. She also uses her hands quite a bit, which I found really nice (as opposed to the "you have to use x brush in order to achieve y effect" mindset that immediately makes me roll my eyes).

Some beauty tips I've learned over the years that have been life changing:

-For curly hair, find a sulfate free shampoo. This does not have to be expensive! Grocery stores and pharmacies carry them now too! I use the coconut organix shampoo and it's great. In general, try to keep products silicone free because it weighs your hair down. Alcohol free is also good because it is drying. Leaving a bit of conditioner on the ends of your hair can help keep it moisturized. Don't rub your hair with a towel, it causes frizz. Instead, use a microfiber towel or an old tshirt and scrunch out the water. When applying your styling product, rake it through to coat all the strands and then scrunch.

-You can resharpen your razor by running it on your towel or a pair of jeans (go in the same direction as the blades). This works amazingly!! I haven't bought new razor heads in like two years now.

-Swishing with hydrogen peroxide will whiten your teeth and is way cheaper than whitening mouthwash. It does take more time though.

Extra petite is my favorite blog! I cannot scream this womans praises loud enough. I cannot get enough of her. I am not really 'petite' in the waist department but she has this classic and sleek lines that I try to attain in my wardrobe. On her they look classic and trendy whereas on me they look a bit more flirty (more pronounced curves will do that).

Christine McConnell is my favorite instagram page. You may have seen her here on reddit. I would classify her page as classic beauty meets horror nightmare. I love things like that.

Now I am also a fan of /r/AsianBeauty. My skincare game was upped a couple of levels because of that sub. I had no idea that my skin could be so soft and smooth.

My last thing is that I am a fan of "X pieces for Y outfits" boards on pinterest. This is great if you have a capsule wardrobe and are trying to get out of wearing the same ol thing.

What youtube channels do you all watch regularly, and what do you turn to beauty channels for? I wear the same makeup look every day so I like to watch informative videos and product reviews, especially when it comes to skincare and anti aging. Here are some of my favourite channels at the moment:

My husband really prefers "red lips" but I find that's harder to pull off while keeping things more casual looking. Any suggestions on red lip products that aren't so 'in your face' formal red?

Can any one recommend a good facial sunscreen that doesn't reek of, well . . . sunscreen? I need to be outside a lot this summer and I won't be wearing makeup (the stuff I use has an SPF so I usually just go with that).

I'm looking for something that's not really heavy and doesn't smell bad or at all. I'm not sure there is such a thing but I'm not at all knowledgable about this kind of thing.

Does anyone have recommendations for places to buy cute/everyday lingerie, as well as, "I'm going to knock the socks off my man" lingerie that isn't Victoria's Secret? I used to shop there quite a bit and have found that the quality isn't nearly what it used to be there. Also, it's T minus 70 days until my boyfriend comes home from Iraq for his R&R so I'm trying to get some new things well ahead of time so I'm not rushing a week prior.

Anybody here have trouble buying tops ans dresses because of being short-waisted (I.e., you have to get petites, and even then something fitted might be too long?)
