For my boyfriend, I'm saving up for this really nice leather messenger bag for him to use when he goes to work! I saw him eyeing it the other day when he was watching Suits (he loves Mike Ross) hahaha.

Something I've used in the past: tickets to games.

Dudes love sports. it's a bonding thing for them. I once saved up around $700 and bought floor seats for an ex. I got two tickets so he could take a close guy friend with him! he had tons of fun and really appreciated that his gift had NOTHING to do with me or us as a couple and it was something only for him to enjoy.

It was the Miami Heat playing too so the whole room was packed!

Something to read (He's not big into reading so this one gets skipped most birthdays but I tend to buy him a book at Christmas last year was zen of motorcycle maintenance)
Something entertaining (video game/movie/concert tickets)
Something that's dumb (Joke, gag, silly)

I based it off this thing I saw on Pinterest for kid gifts.. 1 thing they want, 1 thing they need, 1 thing they wear, 1 thing they read

Some winners: Mr. Beer Home Brewing Kit, Dewalt Power Drill, I read reviews on his favorite beers and found similar beers that were recommended and put together a tasting of new beers that he was almost guaranteed to like, ordered a Honey Baked Ham, a Leatherman Skeletool.

I think that's a great age for like, a really nice watch if he doesn't already have one. I don't know what it is about a good watch that turns a boy into a man, but the transformation is beautiful.

My Man and I always do 2 gifts, one useful, and one pretty thing for fun. Some of his favorite gifts have been a customized safety razor shaving kit, a pocket watch for when he wears his suit, and work out tanks. LookHuman, while it has some silly anti-man things, also has some fun nerd-themed workout tanks, like Han Swolo or The Empire Lifts Back, and they're pretty affordable.

i love the process of learning a new skill and building something useful. in the past i have learnt pottery to make a beautiful tea set for a partner who had a love of fine japanese teas. it was incredibly satisfying and he loved the effort that went into it.

my SO is very outdoorsy and his birthday is in a few weeks, so i'm learning woodworking in my spare time and making him a carved wooden compass. everything from selecting the wood to learning how to build the magnetic mechanism has been so enjoyable.

is there some craft you could learn? maybe make him a beautiful blanket or a wooden box to store his art supplies?

My bf's not much of a gift-receiver. He's usually like "just get naked"... but that isn't a bad place to start, even if you do come up with an awesome thoughtful other gift! :D

so this probably doesnt apply to your guy but my husband loves his lego and my mom gave him a huge lego star wars set for his last birthday.

maybe he would like some sort of exercise gear like a fitbit?

I am terrible at gift giving, but my SO has wanted a Team USA hockey jersey from the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics since the day we played Russia. Other than that, he likes tools or stuff for his horrible favorite baseball team (we have a rivalry that brought us together - it's a weird dynamic).

One thing that may or may not be a good idea is a really good wallet. Some guys are really picky about them, but a high-quality leather wallet with maybe his initials branded on it is a really thoughtful but useful gift.
