First, congratulations! Second, some words of wisdom. 10, 10, and 10. 10 days, 10 weeks, and 10 months. They will poop fewer times a day after each milestone. Why does this seem significant some of you may be wondering? Newborns poop after each feeing when they are born. Those first 10 days are a blur of poop, nipples, diapers and more diapers.

This knowledge helped me so much with my third baby, because I knew when I would be getting more sleep.

Third, and you've probably been told this. Sleep, dear Iris. Sleep when your little one sleeps. Put him on your chest, lie down and sleep with him. It's one of the most precious things you will ever do and you will need it, too. The house can wait. It'll be there for you to care for later. Cherish this time and don't sweat the obvious stuff even though it is obvious. That is the best piece of advice I can give you.

Hon congratulations! There is definitely something so special about a first child since it will be your first experience in so many things. It's bewildering though it's all worth it, you have now transcended another level as a family, you all deserve each other, your family is very lucky to have you.

Congratulations! This is such a special time. I hope everything went as smoothly as possible and you are basking in love and teeny tiny baby noises.

I'll add that the overwhelming "what kind of world are we living in" feelings become less powerful, but you may (I did and several I've questioned, anyway) have new and unexpected reactions to the suffering of others, even bugs.

Ask your mom friends/family questions. I always feel so honored when I'm asked, even about poop colors, locchia, nipples, and mental stuff.

Above all, know that you are designed for this, so trust in yourself and your abilities. Listen to your gut.

Thank you everyone! the messages and DMs and twitter messages have been so sweet.

Okay - so we had Fishy (yes he's staying fishy on the internet and no photos on twitter, sorry ladies) Monday morning just before 9 pm. He was 8#3oz and 21in. Labor was rough - fast and furious. If you want the gory details I will DM you but the general G version is that my water broke slowly Sunday night and because it was slow my OB wanted me in the hospital for observation. after a few hours of observation, I wasn't really progressing. So they gave me a little Pitocin and things revved up fast. I went from 1 to 4 in a few hours and then 4-8 with in 1 hour. That was hell. Drugs were needed haha. My labor nurse was freaking pro and hardly left my side. R was exactly what I needed even though in the moment he wasn't sure he was doing anything helpful. After the epidural was administered I was able to sleep and relax and just let my body go on auto pilot. OB came in at 7am and I started to labor down - pushing was the easiest part and once Fishy's forehead was out he was in my field of vision. It was surreal I wanted to reach down and grab him but couldn't move my arms fast enough. His heartbeat dropped a little during pushing but he was just fine in the end. He's still my wiggily wiggly baby and he's freaking cute as a button!

Congratulations Iris! My little contribution? Don't forget to look out for yourself. As you form new routines it can be easy to forget to check in with your own wellbeing. Postpartum Depression/Anxiety does NOT discriminate, and it can take a heavy toll. On a lighter note, padcicles made recovery muuuuch more comfortable. Gripe water can be a godsend for gassy babies, and it takes a while for your joints to get back to normal so be cautious with all of that "suddenly not pregnant!" energy.

Congratulations to you! Take a million photos and let photos be taken of you also. I was feeling kind of self conscious at this time but you need those photos for later. Happiest Baby on the Block is a fabulous book that my husband and I both found relevant and effective.
