That's really interesting. I'm actually the complete opposite. When I was single I would do it several times a week (mostly due to loneliness and for stress release). Now that I'm married and have sex on a regular basis, I can go weeks without 'taking care of myself' and I don't think about it as much. I was never promiscuous so I can't speak to that, but I was definitely sexually frustrated and felt a LOT of shame. All of that is gone now... it's more of a satisfied, cosy feeling. I wouldn't say your situation is "weird" at all though, people have different sex drives & priorities and that's okay. Maybe having a partner to focus on just activates your sex drive more than being by yourself? I always prefer sex with my husband over doing it myself.

I’m the opposite. When single I masterbate frequently. I notice it comes in waves, usually around the time I ovulate but not always. When in a relationship I masterbate a lot less. I can’t figure out why this is because sex doesn’t even satisfy me like masterbating does.

I haven't been single in many years, I was always a serial "dater" and had very short gaps between relationships. Take that for what you will, I'm not saying it is a good thing or bad thing. I certainly solo masturbated more before I lived with my husband. Now, sharing a space, he is able to participate with me, so masturbation is less common.

I will say, I gave up porn a few months before I got married, and I have 0 regrets. I also participated in a complete nofap for about 3-4 months. I experienced many wet dreams. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but whenever I'm deprived for too long, my body just does it on its own in my sleep. My husband also gave up porn completely a little under a year ago, and he tries to go nofap completely. He only slips up every few months. I never hold it over him, it is just his own personal journey that he wanted to go on.

I’m not sure what I think about your question on promiscuity, but I figured give my two cents about this aspect of my relationship, for what it’s worth.

I almost never masturbate while in a relationship. I did when my boyfriend and I were long distance, but now that we live together I actively choose to abstain from any kind of masturbation. Because our relationship has been established for some time and has progressed to the point of being sexual, I want to share my sexuality with him, and leaving him out of a session makes me sad and a bit guilty. It’s so much better with him that it feels silly to do it alone. And when I come on to him already full of sexual tension, the encounter that follows is always intense and wonderful.

Although he hasn’t said the same verbatim, I gather from our conversations on the subject and what I know about his past habits that he doesn’t masturbate either, now that we are no longer long distance. If he does, it clearly isn’t enough for me to have noticed and isn’t affecting our relationship.

I think that abstaining from masturbation contributes to the quality of our sex life. I am glad that we haven’t felt the need to set any hard rules around the subject, and I’d caution anyone struggling with this to consider whether placing a strict ban on masturbation in their relationship would cause more harm than good. But I do plan to continue following my own “rule” of only enjoying my sexuality in his company for the foreseeable future.

Interesting question. I’ve never masturbated very much. Maybe once a month. Now im 22 and in a long term relationship, I only masturbate maybe 3 times a month. My sexdrive is not very high (I am content with 1 time a week, but always try to do more for my partners sake)

I do feel more horny when I do masturbate though, and maybe I should do it more to get in the mood!

Can't compare with being single as I haven't been single in decades. I don't do it alone often, and it would generally be when home alone with opportunity, and within that it would often be having told him by text I was going to. I have never cheated. I have a higher sex drive than him, and doing it myself doesn't hinder being keen to be intimate with him
