Film Discussion: Swingers (1996)

The beginning of the movie reminded me of this. I'd forgotten about it.

I love Vince Vaughn. His quick wit and mannerisms are just so compelling. He was great in True Detective.

So right now I'm watching The Sopranos and John Favre actually guest starred in it as himself. In that movie he is talking to Christopher Moltisanti about the movie swingers. So I went into watching this movie with kinda having a bit of an idea about it already.

This movie was so full of RP ideas and I just loved it. John was so annoying and definitely personified how needy men can look horrible. While Vince was gettin it! I've seen it IRL and it is just undeniable the dynamics between men and women. This was such a great movie to discuss!!

ALRIGHT LISTEN UP LADIES MAN HERE

This has got to be one of the best films I have ever seen in my entire life. The flow, the energy, the dialogue, the character, the music and the message were all really awesome!

I would like to file a police report against this movie for stealing my heart and taking my attention for hostage.

I've watched it three times already. I show all my best friends the movie and tell them about it, I just absolutely love it.

If you're reading this and you haven't seen the movie, stop reading now and go watch it. Even if you're at work, I want you to stop right now.

This is one of my favorite movies and it was enlightening to rewatch it with a RP lens. A couple things stuck out to me:
- It impressed me how loyal Trent is. He stands up for his friends and doesn't let anyone speak negatively of Mike.
- Dancing with someone who knows how to dance well and lead is hot, and that's the only time Mike was successful.

Finally got around to watching this movie yay!!! My biggest takeaway is that this is definitely a guy movie. A lot of the thinking and explanations of things were definitely over my head. Plus all the male humor haha. But I do think it's important that ladies know how some men behave when trying to "get back out there" and it's kind to respect their process. Break ups hit men really hard and they may outwardly appear fine and get back "on the horse" and hit up bars and clubs, but they may still have feelings about the break up.

Basically, men have feels too. If anything, it made me want to put even forth more effort into respecting whoever I'm with because you never know just how much a man cares. Mikey is an exception hahaha!

Other thoughts:

Mikey, child, what were you thinking with that phone? One VM was enough. I cringed so hard I think I shook off half of my epidermis layer.
I'm going to walk up to strangers having a bad day and go "OMG what's wrong? You can do this. You're so money right now."
Oneitis is real.
Mikey was such a nice guy. My personal ideal. He was clearly masculine and a regular guy but not a jerk. Higher beta material. I don't know many woman who wouldn't want a Mikey. He just needed to get his feels straight.
I love male friendship movies. It reminded me a lot of 40 Year Old Virgin where the bros recognize an issue and all pitch in to help in their own way, while kind of respecting the shortcomings of the person they are helping. I found that interesting. Men advise that you work around your shortcomings and often women pretend they don't have any shortcomings. I may have to think more on that later but it's something I noticed.
Vince Vaughn was hot once upon a time but he has always talked like that hahaha.

Overall, fun movie!!

This movie is flawless! I've seen it twice and can't wait to watch it again, it is just that great. The dialogue and story are so real it almost hurts at times (the voicemail scene!) and the characters are perfect depictions of the types of guys out there in the dating world who are just trying to have some fun and make a connection with women. Obviously this was all very RP, and there is so much to discuss, I just want to highlight two things:

Trent is a great example of an H man with both negative and positive alpha traits that is attractive and successful with women. In the dominance series its easiest to discuss extreme examples so that the concepts are clear but in real life not many are actually like that. Trent's positive alpha traits - confidence, game, security in himself, a sense of adventure, etc. His negative alpha traits - selfishness, assholeness, lack of regard for other's desires or personal space unless it suits him, etc.
There is this narrative online that all hot women are bitches and that has just never been true and the film shows this very well. The women are always open and friendly; in fact the only bitchy person was the least attractive girl haha
