I can't stand attitudes like the first example. It's so insulting to both sexes. Husband is the bumbling fool while I'm "the old ball and chain" and the wedding ring was "the world's tiniest pair of handcuffs". I've been married about 2 months now and I've received both of those comments already. I just sit there in silence until they change the subject because I don't have the ovaries to say what I really want to :/ How sad is it that this is what people think of marriage now? Some of us actually like being married and enjoy being around our spouse. Like what the hell man.

"Some of us actually like being married and enjoy being around our spouse."
I'd encourage you to respond with those exact words, preferably calmly and with a smile.

Gah I know I should, but its hard for me to stand up to people especially when I don't know them well and want to make a good impression (friends of my parents and people like that)

One approach I like is to pretend to be confused, like you want to get what they're saying but you just don't understand. "Huh? Would you be happier if I was unhappy?"

That's great, thanks!

This actually annoys the piss out of me. If a man and a woman are drinking and have sex that neither consented to explicitly, why is he the rapist? How do we know she didn't rape him? After all, they're "guilty" of the same "crimes".
I have to say, though, if I were a man this would make me about a thousand times more cautious not to touch any woman who'd had any alcohol, knowing that there could be a ludicrous rape charge around the corner. You'd probably get laid less, but hey, seems like a fair price to pay not to be embroiled in a career-ending, life-ruining sexual assault charge.

In another sub a woman talked about being on a date with a guy she had fooled around with that ended with them drunk in bed making out. He made advances, she said 'not now' but kept making out and he was fingering her. Then he penetrated, asked 'is this ok?' she said 'yes' and was then saying she was raped. One woman spoke up to say basically that saying yes meant it was consensual not raped. A few people jumped in to say she was horrible for saying it wasn't rape and then the comment that saying yes made it consensual (and said it politely) was removed.
I unsubscribed from that sub.
I've seen "if you feel like you were raped you were raped" so many times. Too many times!!! I'm pretty sure there is a specific legal definition for rape and you can't go claiming you were based on feelings. You either consented (and non verbal consent counts) or you didn't.

ive said it before and ill say it again, i always thought the practice of chaperonage was to protect women from being "compromised", but ive come to the conclusion now it was to protect men from female false accusations
in gone with the wind, rhett butler is "not received" by the good families of atlanta because he took a girl out buggy riding without a chaperone in the late afternoon, the buggy broke down and they walked back alone and he refused to marry her afterwards, with accusation that sex even occurred. "compromising a woman" was the old fashioned equivalent of a date rape accusation

A friend of mine hooked up with one of our classmates last year. Poor guy got accused of rape and thrown out. 12 years of studying, finally getting into med school and then getting kicked out forever all because of some lying bitch. Funny thing is the other girls actually support what she did.
Aint worth it, ever since then the entire college stays clear of classmate hookups. The whines of "why arn't guys paying me any attention!?!?" shall be heard soon. Ladies please don't do this
