I didn’t wear my wedding ring for about 3 years. There’s a few reasons:

I was constantly losing it. I can’t wear it for work so I would take it off while giving a massage and then forget where I put it. After about 6+ times of this my husband asked me to put it somewhere safe.
I have sensory issues and I could never “forget” my ring on my finger. I went and bought a cheap Amazon ring that I wear now so if I lose it it doesn’t matter. I can always feel it. This is the same for any jewelry.
I gained weight and can’t wear my real wedding ring anyway. It’s safely tucked away so when I lose weight I can wear it for special occasions.

If something matters to you, you can say it does. Don’t be a nag, but you can say it means a lot that he wears it. But it very well may not be something important to him to be honest - and not in a bad way. My point in making this post is that there are a myriad of innocent reasons he isn’t wearing it.

If you're wondering why he's not wearing it, just ask him. You can tell him if this bothers you, of course. You CAN talk openly about issues. Just remember that ultimately, he's the one who needs to wear it and be comfortable, so don't take it personally if for example he finds it uncomfortable.

My husband doesn’t wear his ring during the work week because he works with his hands. He’s very much not a jewellery person either.

He knows I like him wearing it, though, so he puts it on for the weekend so long as he’s not doing any yard work. He will also wear it if we go out to dinner somewhere during the work week.

Maybe this sort of thing would be a good compromise for you guys?

Mine got his tattood. He nearly ripped his finger off a few times working. Thr symbol mattered more than which one. A tattoo solved the injury and sensory issue problem.

If you can ask him why it bothers him, that would help clear things up. If it bothers him physically, maybe you can suggest to get him a chain to put the ring on so he can wear it as a necklace instead?

Ask him if he's uncomfortable with it. It's also a terrible idea to wear rings to any sort of place where you need to grab things (don't Google ring avulsion). I've seen men on workshops wearing it on the neck with a chain, Lord of the rings style.

I stopped wearing one because on weekend house project it was dangerous or damaged some perfect finish. At work around high voltage it was an issue. Eventually my knuckles got too big to wear it. I'd approach this honestly asking him if the ring fits. Tell him you like him to wear it but don't assume anterior motives.

My dad stopped wearing his ring years ago because it stopped fitting. It felt like an unnecessary cost to get it resized. (My mom got a new diamond on a special anniversary, though). Everybody at my dad's job knows he's married and has a boatload of kids. Does the cashier at the grocery store need to know, too?

I don’t wear it either.

I’m working out everyday and would have to remove it. My hands somewhat got bigger despite a weight loss and it’s a tight fit.

I’l put it on when we go for dates or special occasions.

It’s probably uncomfortable for him. Personally I don’t wear rings because I can constantly feel except for my ring finger on my right hand.

Also depends on what type of work he does too.

It might just be a personal preference. My husband never takes his ring off, not even to shower or to sleep but I take mine off as soon as I get home.

I would assume that he really doesn't need the jewelry to remind him that he's got a wife. I would also imagine there's two possibilities and that it depends on the guy. I think the importance of the ring can be judged based on the dating stage.

I'd say if he used to be quite lucky with the girls before then, and you were the one he settled down with, then the ring might be more than a symbol because it also lets other women know he's taken. On the other hand, if he didn't have a great dating life before, the ring ought to mean quite little to him, because in his mind, wearing it may just be an inconvenience and nothing changes whether he's wearing it or not. He's definitely not hiding that he's married, if that's what you're worried about.

It might be hard to understand from a female point of view, but usually the ring as a symbol is quite secondary and usually doesn't reflect how he feels about you. The ring doesn't change the feelings, right? It's just supposed to show others.

So there's two ways you could handle that: You could tell him straight up that it bothers you that he isn't wearing it, which probably will lead to a few arguments down the road. He loves you, so he'll definitely will put it on again, but maybe put it off at work or when you're not around, if it's annoying him. Which eventually will lead to a moment when he's not gonna wear it. It's probably gonna look even worse if you make him promise not to take it off (which he'll promise) and then you'll catch him at work or someplace with no ring on.

The alternative is if you can accept that the ring really means little to him and it doesn't bother you at some point that he's not wearing it.

Maybe the path to consider is, that you guys come to an agreement where he'll wear it maybe 3-4 days of the week (maybe on workdays) so he gets used to it more. You could tell him that he's a great guy and you're worried he'll get hit on, (which he'll like to hear that you're worried) if he doesn't wear it, so maybe you could agree that he should put it on when he leaves the house or something. That he'll probably find fair, and won't have problems with.

That might be a compromise where you get what you want without it eventually running into stupid fights, because I doubt that wearing the ring means much to him, but it will annoy him much more that you're being forceful about something irrelevant (to him) and then he won't be able to resist standing his ground in order to not submit to you. I hope that makes sense...

I think there’s more likely an emotional reason. He wore the ring for the first eight months without issue or complaints. If he was allergic or it was a safety thing, he would not have waited eight months to take it off. Furthermore he’s telling you he’s going to put it back on and then not doing it. With no explanations as to why.

I’d ask him point blank why.

My husband of 8 months used to wear his wedding ring all the time, he told me that he wants to take it off for a couple of days because it bothers him. A couples days went through and I told him that I like his hand more when the ring is there and we can get a new one or resized it if he doesn’t like it because he told me to not worry because he would wear it soon. It's not natural to have rings on for men in general, This isn't something to be alarm'd about, However he could wear it for your special days, anniversary, valentines and birthday

Would that make you feel better? Discuss/Communicate that with him.
