The Art of Being a Modern Lady

I was doing a bit of reading on maintaining ladylike behaviors in the modern world when I stumbled across this post: https://www.samanthalindsey.com/modern-lady/

I felt that this post really hit so many of the key traits of being a lady. I thought that it was especially fresh that 6 of 7 of the points had nothing to do with one's appearance. I think it's very easy to get stuck in the rut of how to look more feminine, but this post really hit home on how to become more feminine, ladylike, and timeless in a deeper way.

A brief overview for those who can't or don't want to read the post:

• kind spirit

• well mannered

• thinks before speaking

• unapologetically herself

• continues learning

• dresses tastefully

• carries herself with confidence.

It's not an especially lengthy list, but in my opinion, that's for the best. It gives us things to focus on cultivating and mastering!

What are your thoughts on this post?

edit: thanks to whoever gave this gold! How sweet!

I think it's cute. It's nice to have a reminder of what you value, I think the list exemplifies traits you can exhibit daily, which is helpful! The one point that stresses me out about this list is "dresses tastefully." I'm redo-ing my wardrobe rn (making it into a capsule) so while it's true, it stresses me out. Haha.

That's such a good way to put it. That's really what I liked about this list, was the simple ways we can all be like this on a daily basis.

I totally get the stress! I'm downsizing my wardrobe, because there's a lot that I don't wear or fit, and planning to revamp into a capsule. However, I think you can still dress appropriately with a capsule wardrobe! Just a matter of the right pairing, I suppose! :)

#3 is pretty important and underrated in our modern world. So many people constantly burst out rude and unnecessary things when communicating with others and use the excuse of "I'm just being honest" as a form of exoneration.

That's so true! I feel like people forget that there is a way to be both honest and kind.

yeh or to just not say anything if there's nothing useful to say. Most people forget that you don't always have to put your input into everything. I blame the modern day culture of everyone's opinion mattering so much. I grew up with my opinion meaning jack, so people often say I don't talk enough, but in my mind it's perfectly acceptable. lol

You're welcome! It was a reminder for me, too- part of why I shared it here.

I feel like these are excellent guidelines of the things we need to be teaching our daughters.

Absolutely. Honestly, I think this is a solid list for all of us, men and women. But this is definitely something that we need to pass down to the next generation.

Are there any other blogs you’d recommend?

[–]redandpearls2 Stars[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Oh goodness. To be entirely honest, I don't tend to frequent many blogs. The majority of my internet time is spent on Reddit or YouTube, so I'm not the best person to ask about that.

If anyone else has blog recommendations for us, feel free to mention them!

I love lists like this, though it is impossible for me to completely be this way. I have been wanting to read more books on modern etiquette. My Mom brought me up very strict in that way. & I would like to continue practicing/having those habits & social graces.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
