"The Husband Store"~A Parable Of Why Female Choosiness Leads to Spinsterhood

This is an oldie-but-a-goodie that I thought needed to be shared

"A store that sells new husbands has opened in New York City, where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates:

"You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the value of the products increase as the shopper ascends the flights. The shopper may choose any item from a particular floor, or may choose to go up to the next floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building!

"So, a woman goes to The Husband Store to find a husband.

"On the first floor the sign on the door reads:

"Floor 1 – These men have Jobs.

"She is intrigued, but continues to the second floor, where the sign reads:

"Floor 2 – These men Have Jobs and Love Kids.

"‘That’s nice,’ she thinks, ‘but I want more.’

"So she continues upward. The third floor sign reads:

"Floor 3 – These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, and are Extremely Good Looking.

"‘Wow,’ she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.

"She goes to the fourth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 4 – These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Good Looking and Help With Housework.

"‘Oh, mercy me!’ she exclaims, ‘I can hardly stand it!’

"Still, she goes to the fifth floor and the sign reads: Floor 5 – These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Gorgeous, Help with Housework, and Have a Strong Romantic Streak.

"She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor, where the sign reads:

"Floor 6 – You are visitor 81,456,012 to this floor.

"There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please. Thank you for shopping at The Husband Store.

"To avoid gender bias charges, the store’s owner opened The Wife Store just across the street.

"The first floor has wives that love sex.

"The second floor has wives that love sex, have money and can really cook.

"The third floor has wives that love sex, have money, can really cook and are drop dead gorgeous.

"The fourth, fifth and sixth floors have never been visited."

I think not being picky enough can also cause the same outcome, i.e. not looking for a good captain. Like settling for a guy who won't ever commit and what have you. Some women can't ever be pleased and others have such low self worth that they have no standards. It's all about balance and finding someone who suits you well and is a good partner. Getting someone far above you is a recipe for constant anxiety and someone far below you a recipe for resentment.

Though to be fair, the men's 3rd floor has as many characteristics has the women's 4th floor. Not exactly apples to apples.

I think not being picky enough can also cause the same outcome.

Indeed. We all know a girl or two who has her wedding and family life planned....all she needs is a man to fit into this metaphorical wedding tux. She goes on a date, and is like, "A nose, two eyes, and a mouth? He's perfect! I can make him into the man I want him to be!"

I also see women go on dates with guys and became enamored after a date or two. It's like they put on blinders to everything, and he immediately and irrationally becomes The One--which he stays for like three weeks until he pumps and dumps.

I want my daughter (nearly 10 years-old) to be picky--in the right way. I want her to find a man who is ethical and manly. I hope that she learns from watching her father and me interact--what a healthy, rewarding marriage is all about. She and her dad are very close. She is also very close with my dad.

I'm hoping that these men are the yardstick in her mind against which all men will be measured. If she does this, she will have great judgment with men.

I love how passionate you are about surrounding your daughter with strong male influences. I wish I could have learned that way instead of the hard way.

I know a few girls who could use this bit of wisdom...

The grass is always greener... Hypergamy in action.

Just to add another metaphor in the same vein.

I see women not being picky when young and becoming picky as the wall approaches...

In marriage?

This is about husbands, not sex.

I was referring to serial monogamy as well, my bad.
