Thread on AskMen asking what they wish their wives would do more of

January 20, 2019

Such an interesting read! Some basic themes are:

  1. Letting him have time to himself.

  2. Initiating more affection

  3. Giving more appreciation for the things he does

But the top comment (which was actually a wife who had asked her non-redditor husband what his answer was) said that when they were first married, she used to make this layer cake every week and leave it in the counter in a glass display case. He said that he missed that cake from a deep part of his soul.

I noticed that one comment got over 100 upvotes, about how it annoyed him when his wife asked for permission ("can I order the lamb chops?"). And comments about women from abusive pasts tend to do that. My husband likes it, and said the guy who posted it ought to give a mandate if it annoys him and lacks leadership skills.

This is a good example of general advice vs. what a certain man wants.

Always go with what your man wants over the “generic red pill wisdom.”

Yes!

Mandate is an interesting word choice. Can you elaborate more on what he meant by that?

I can really empathize with him though. I have a similar experience. But as a general rule, I see it as a sign of respect. Maybe not on the level of what food she decides to order, but definitely on larger purchases. My wife wanted to purchase a few items for our table top game, it was going to be over $100. I told her she could spend up to $150. But before she pressed the order button, she still confirmed with me, telling me the total. While confused I still appreciated the notion.

(Probably should've lead with this, I'm the sole income for the family)

I think he meant exactly that, what you did. Give her the task of buying/ordering something and the required budget.

What your wife did doesn't confuse me at all. What if she ordered something you didn't even like? Even if it is within budget, if you hate it, that would be awful. Especially because it concerns prettifying things. That's like buying an expensive perfum, only to have him recoil in disgust.

Fair enough. I saw mandate to be synonymous with ultimatum.

It is entirely possible that I mistranslated him :-) (we're not English speakers).

In the midwestern US you can get one cheap at Menards. Like 8 bucks at the moment, look for 6-in-1 Server Set. In general though I think the one made by Anchor Hocking is the mental image most people have, cheap like $10 at Walmart. We've got one that lives on the counter and we generally try to keep it full of cookies since we mostly do cakes for birthdays (which there are plenty of in our household).

"TO OUR VALUED CUSTOMERS,

We regret that due to technical challenges caused by new regulations in Europe, we can for the time being no longer accept orders from the European Union."

And so we also won't let you see the picture?!

Bunch of meanies...

Based on the reviews you don't want this one anyways, it seems to have bad quality control.

Ooh pretty though -^ thanks! That does add a certain charm to a kitchen counter. Especially when filled! I'll just check local kitchenware shops :-)

But reviews are horrible

Oof, she likes it so far, I hope I didn’t screw up.

Admire your man for his work. Build your man up when he sees himself low. It is better to have an arrogant hard worker than a self doubting non worker.

Would be great if you linked the thread

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
