Woman loses weight. Coworkers get nasty (h/t TRP)

Call me cynical, but I've been slim my whole life and have only got 2-3 bad comments in all. I'm sure it does happen, but I just think OP has fabricated some of it.

There is NO WAY a store employee would say that to a customer. I was a bit sceptical at how 'perfectly bitchy' some comments were, and that last bit about 'we only stock real women's sizes' just put the nail in the coffin.

I'm sure OP did have some people being dicks to her, but I doubt all of it was true. I mean, as a female engineer I've had some awful shit said to me, so I know it happens.

Although I think the OP is probably taking a few things out of context (especially since she's likely not used to being checked out, etc.) I can definitely see where coworkers and other women would get nasty about her becoming really attractive from weight loss and assuming she must have did it unnaturally rather than the old-fashioned way.

I think I've said it before, but women are vicious, especially to women they deem above themselves. They'll do anything to try to knock an attractive woman down a peg or two.

I look forward to losing more weight, not only to be more attractive for my SO but also to know I was able to do something like that instead of sitting around and doing nothing.

I lost quite a bit of weight... I can confirm that instances like this are actually quite frequent. Perhaps not that extreme, and definitely not in a professional setting. It generally stems from larger family members or "short term" friends you may have met.

I have a hard time believing this, especially the comments by those who hadn't even known her when she was larger. I've always been slim/small and never encountered such behavior. I mean people staring at what she eats and glaring? Come on.. Unless she is somehow extremely unlucky and happens to be by the most pyscho bitchy ladies, this sounds like a load of crap to me.

I can agree and disagree with this article. I've been lifting and whatnot for five years so I'm above average when it comes to that.. I'm sorry, but people will always be mean, but it mostly depends on how strong of a women you are in the very first place. Working in a salon environment is probably one of the worst as it is all female - gay men count because they are just as bad in these environments. I did just fine because of my personality and these women knew not to cross paths with me. I think being weak has a lot to do with it too because when you are powerful people start behaving much differently.

The reason I say being weak is a major play into this is because when I worked in the salon our receptionist was a WBFF Diva Bikini Pro. I got along with her very well, but we had all of the same interests except my style of lifting is different. She was weak, though. Everyone talked so badly about her to the point our boss actually fired her.. She was very built and had an amazing physique as well, but the only difference between her and I was the value placed upon us as individuals. They saw me as high value/powerful to the point they feared being on my bad side versus seeing another beautiful female as low value because she didn't know how to properly handle the situations.

The females who post on the fitness sub and xxfitness are generally morons. I can barely even post on xxfitness because of how heavily downvoted I get for giving direct and appropriate advice because what they really want is for people to paint them a candy filled picture of ooh's and ahh's. Even yesterday on the fitness sub a female asked, in a majority MALE sub, something about sports bras. Ok. Fine...scroll through comments to where there's female's wondering what sports bras will enhance their breast size while at the gym. Someone commented saying "Why would you want them to look bigger especially in all places the gym? and you would think he started a damn war.

I don't usually like to completely discount stories most of the time, but I gotta say, I seriously doubt most of this stuff happened. I couldn't possibly imagine some random individual working in a clothing store putting their job in jeopardy by saying something like that. Most people in this economy would be far too reluctant to potentially risk losing their employment for the sake of one snarky comment.

On top of that, and I don't mean to sound like I'm saying this in an offensive light or anything, but in my experience, overweight people (ladies in particular) tend to be a little oversensitive when it comes to other people's comments. That is to say, something intended as a joke or simply a passive comment may be more likely to be taken as insulting. If this person happens to be this type, and was used to interpreting comments in the worst possible light before losing the weight, I have little doubt she'd be doing the same now. For example, I weigh about 113 lbs on average and I often get people asking me if I'm sure I've had enough to eat or that "I'm getting awfully skinny" when I haven't changed weight in over six years, but I know most people aren't intending to be rude when they say those things.

On top of that, I once was a bit heavier in high school. Nothing serious (125-130 lbs on average) but certainly noticeable, and when I lost the weight out of high school completely unintentionally (different eating patterns and increased exercise) all I got were compliments from people.

I know this is basically just an anecdote versus another anecdote, but unless this person lives in a city full of nothing but assholes, I'm still skeptical.

I reckon OP is exaggerating a lil bit but women do get catty, competitive and jealous around appearance, particularly weight loss.

I've kind of experienced it too, no where near as bad as the OP though. For context, I used to be fat until I was about 19. One of my best friends who I'd known since childhood also used to be fat. I managed to lose some weight, and so did she. She worked harder than me though and lost more, and she looks really great. She got a tonne of attention from men that she never had before, and I think it went to her head a bit cs she turned into kind of a bitch to men, but that's another story.

Anyways, I'm still a bit chubby, definitely more so than her. I'm working on fixing that now, but she seems really annoyed about it, and tries to discourage me from doing it. She continuously tells me that I should love myself how I am and I'm fine how I am and don't need to lose more weight. That sounds supportive, but she goes a bit OTT and when she knows I really want to get fitter and healthier, surely if she's being a good friend she should support that rather than encouraging me to stay the same.

Since she got skinnier, she's even become a feeder. Like if people are going over to her place, she will always make LOADS of food, cakes etc, and encourage everyone to eat it, whilst not touching a mouthful herself. She always talks about how she eats nothing and is so skinny too, it gets a bit attention-whorey after a while.

I'm starting to feel a bit wtf about the whole thing, I'm happy for her that she feels better about her appearance, but I wish she didn't try to bring me down in comparison.

I admit though, I'm also totally guilty of female jealousy over weight/appearance. If I see a girl that looks the way I'd like to, I get a moment of 'its not faiirrrrr' but I'm trying to use that for inspiration. They probably worked damn hard to get into that shape and it's something to admire.
