TL:DR AGAIN
You just pulled a threesome with two of the finest bitches in the club? Sick. Again.
You had an the best gym day in a while, hit new PR's and ate the way you were supposed to? Incredible. Again.
You had one of your most productive days with laser focus while working on your business? Props bro. AGAIN.
After being in one of the most testosterone fueled environments a man can be in, you pick up a couple of things that translate to life. At a wrestling practice one of the words you would hear the most is AGAIN. Your coach doesn't give a fuck if you execute your take down perfectly, if your next takedown is sloppier than the head that blonde slut with daddy issues gave you in the bathroom stall, you achieved nothing.
congratulations, you played yourself.
During wrestling season, the moves were deeply engraved in my head, and I could bust out a single leg takedown at the drop of a pin. Ask me to do one today and I can still do it.
The only way to hit peak performance, over and over and over is through a stupid amount of repetition.
Now you are a fucking man, and it is time to be your own coach.
The great Michelangelo said "Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it." Imagine whatever skill you are trying to develop as a large block of marble. At first, its a slab, its nothing, its raw, just a rock.
However the sculptor is able to mentally X-Ray vision the fuck out of that slab of marble and see the potential for what it could be.
THIS IS WHERE MOST PEOPLE STOP.
This is the most dangerous place to be in. I call it "The Premature Masturbation" Stage. You reward yourself for envisioning shit you haven't even done yet, starting an endless loop of not doing anything and end up fucking your dopamine reward system.
BEWARE
The Premature Masturbator envisions it and then do nothing to work towards their goal. I mean, sure it feels good, but at the end of the day you are fucking yourself.
Lets look at this from the sculptors perspective. Wouldn't it sound absolutely retarded to look at a slab, imagine what it could be and do fucking nothing?
What was the name of that one great sculptor that did that shit? Oh wait, NO ONE FUCKING KNOWS.
That slab will continue to be a slab until the sculptor gets off his ass, grabs a chisel and a hammer and starts pounding at that shit. He breaks a chip off, again. He hits the slab then breaks another chip, good shit, AGAIN
At first the sculptor creates the basic shape of the sculpture then slowly yet surely, through an innumerable amount of strikes the sculpture begins to take form.
Finally through carefully planned precise strikes, the masterpiece will be finished.
You are going to be shit at first. Accept it. Everyone goes through it. Build your base by learning the basics. Eventually after a load of repetition you will begin improve. Eventually you get to the point where any time you are put in that situation, you can perform consistently.
The goal here is to acknowledge when you do something good, then leave the "masturbation phase" as soon as possible, and do it again.
The funny, yet almost masochistic thing here is: The Sculpture will NEVER truly be finished.
You might be thinking TJD you fucking shitlord, whats the point of going through all that effort if I will never reach my max?
My response to that is: Throughout Michelangelo's life he achieved some pretty incredible shit, no doubt. But in his mind, he was never truly in his prime. I believe this is what fueled his hunger to learn and improve everyday although he is indisputably one of the greatest geniuses of all time. Even the most well known member of the ninja turtles Leonardo Da Vinci had artworks that were "unfinished". If a regular human were to look at it they would believe it is complete, but in his mind it never truly was.
Takeaways:
You are never finished.
Potential doesn't mean shit. Anyone can have potential. The person who makes it is the one who does it then repeats it again and again and again.
Reduce the amount of mental masturbation.
