I never said Chris Rock's argument wasn't well-reasoned, so your comparison isn't even warranted. That makes sense though, considering your original response to me was outright illogical. Yes that's ad hominem. But it is true that your comparison isn't even close:

The issue isn't that Chris Rock isn't right or wrong because of what he said. The point is that it's outright stupid for some people here to point to this and say yeah, when they disagree with the full weight of his argument (which I'm saying is that marriage is acceptable).

A number of people pointed that out to me in this thread... and I agreed with them. But you responded implying that marriage was inherently dumb. Unfortunately, you can't point to what Rock says here and separate it from how he lives life. It's obviously related in this case.

To correctly use your analogy would be thus: Hitler says something. Some asshole with an intense bias (you) comes in and agrees with Hitler. Someone else points out that Hitler uses the same reasoning to partake in acts that the intensely-biased asshole just rejected. That same person argues with the intensely-biased asshole who doesn't realize the contradiction inherent in his argument.

Sure, the fact that Chris Rock said something true doesn't mean that everything else he said is true. However, you have no logical basis to discount his act of marriage considering that you are celebrating his views on relationships.

So whine about ad hominem attacks all you want, but you always missed the point.

As a professional bullshitter and bullshit detector, let me take a crack at this.

You seem to be using "ad hominem" only in regard to insults and "attacks." In fact, everywhere you've used it you've used it in reference to personal insults. Certainly this is a form of ad hominem, but insults and attacks are more the type of ad hominem expected of the peasantry. Formally speaking, ad hominem refers to much more than this.

ad hominem is when someone discounts the validity of someone's argument or claim NOT on the merit of the argument itself but on the character of the person making the argument.

This is exactly what you have been doing, which is why multiple people have called you on it.

If the topic was, "Is Chris Rock a good example of the Red Pill lifestyle?" then yes, Chris Rock's history and character matter. But that's not at all the topic.

The topic is simply a quote. A claim. An argument made by Chris Rock. Chris Rock doesn't matter because Chris Rock isn't the topic at hand. His claim is. And his claim stands or falls regardless of anything about Chris Rock.

In short, you are indisputably, demonstrably, objectively... yes, "morally, ethic'lly, spiritually, physically, positively, absolutely, undeniably and reliably"... guilty of ad hominem. Moreover, you're guilty of clearly not understanding what ad hominem means (Also guilty of not knowing what "cognitive dissonance" is, but I'll cut some slack on that one. Even a professional bullshit detector can devote only so much time to one bullshitter).
