Example of keeping frame ruining an financially beneficial relationship (Or, how provider mentality shortchanged man's bank account)

February 5, 2014

[–]radiofreebc 394 points 12 hours ago: My brother used to date a woman who came from money...although she wasn't superficial at all. She was endlessly generous, down-to-earth, and would help everyone she could. My brother was a SCUBA instructor, and she used to buy him thousands of dollars of gear, just for something nice. She never expected anything in return.

That really bothered my brother, who always felt like he wasn't providing enough to her. It eventually broke them up. She actually asked him to marry her, and he said no...because he didn't think he was good enough for her. Poor guy...she was really great, and they're still friends...although she did end up marrying a Brazilian millionaire.

Just thought some of you would like to see a third person example of frame and self-awareness.

Personally, I think this is a very balanced example of how divided some of the principles preached here can end up being used in ineffective ways. This guy feels inferior to her, but still maintains his frame. He doesn't try to be anything he isn't. Then again, it seems he's aware of his inability to satisfy her (including keeping in check her hypergamy).

I'm interested to see how people react to this man's behavior.

He wasn't keeping his frame. Frame is not defined by amount of money you earn. Nor money makes your frame. If he would have maintained his frame even in the face of financial imbalance, it wouldn't have mattered to her that much, because, from the looks of it, she wasn't really obsessed about the money.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
