There's a piece written by Eliana Dockterman on Time online titled, "The 300 Workout: How Movies Fuel Boys' Insecurities." There's a tl;dr at the bottom.

Screencap of article + comments

In this piece, the author does a sort of exposé on how weight disorders among young men and boys are somehow caused by seeing chiseled bodies onscreen such as those shown on the original 300 movie which came out nearly a decade ago and the more recent one, 300: Rise of an Empire.

The author mainly talks about how young boys of today are feeling inadequate, thinking that they'll never attain such god-like physiques as displayed by the movie's King Leonidas or the main villain known as Xerxes, no matter how hard they try.

If any of this sounds familiar, it's because it's the exact same problem that according to feminists plague girls and women from all over the world in relation to body image and whatnot -- only this time it's adapted to men. So here we have the author painting a picture of men who are not only helpless but also angered by the fact that the sculpted bodies they see throughout the movie will never be theirs.

There's only one problem with the author's assertions: actual men have come out in the comments section to quickly call her out on her bullshit and tell her she's wrong! Men do not have an image problem and are certainly not bothered by body image issues at all, at least not in the same way that girls (ahem, women) are, and certainly not like the author tries to depict. The brave individuals who took to the comment section are all pretty much in agreement: the "300 body" is not impossible nor unachievable, if you would only train and dedicate yourself to it. They don't sound so helpless to me.

As always, whenever a man sees a mountain he wants to conquer it by climbing to the top. Whereas when a woman sees a mountain she would rather bitch and moan and claim that the spot she's already sitting on is the actual mountaintop. And it's all your fault!
