I'm fat. Do I need to pound calories to get results from lifting? I know you need to eat a surplus to put on mass, but I already have excess mass. Will my existing fat turn to muscle, without eating a calorie surplus? Or will I get stronger and leaner before I start worrying about bulking up?

EDIT: "fat turn to muscle" was a poor choice of words and sounds really fucking ignorant. What I meant was, will I get stronger without "bulking?"
