Awful advice. 2 years ago I remember feeling kind of weird and not all that good, but I said fuck it "Don't miss a day in the gym" so I went and lifted - couldn't lift nearly as much as usual and felt extremely dehyrdated afterwards even though I had been drinking water the whole time.

Later that day the flu hit in full force. I could barely move, everything was sore (and I really don't think it was the gym), I had a huge fever but felt extremely cold and was shivering, and had to somehow get up to go pee every 5 minutes. I also had noone there to help me. Worst flu symptoms I ever had, though I might die.

The flu kills many people every year. The flu is NOT the cold. That shit will kill you if you don't use your head. Do not follow this guys advice for your safety. Humanity's greatest advantage is the brain, USE IT.

Some quick reading on the CDC shows high success rate of the vaccine.

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled influenza virus challenge study among 92 healthy adults (LAIV, n = 29; placebo, n = 31; inactivated influenza vaccine, n = 32) aged 18–41 years assessed the efficacy of both LAIV and inactivated vaccine (Treanor et al., 1999). The overall efficacy of LAIV and inactivated influenza vaccine in preventing laboratory-documented influenza from all three influenza strains combined was 85% and 71%, respectively. These results were obtained after study participants, all of whom were susceptible to recently circulating influenza viruses before vaccination, were experimentally exposed to viruses. The difference in efficacy between the two vaccines was not statistically significant.

And vaccine effectiveness for 2013 was 60%. If you think that only a 2/3rds decrease in getting sick in the first place isn't worth the 15$ to get the shot, then I guess you can say it is a scam.

That's the "herd immunity" talking point. I'm familiar with it. Vaccines were traditionally for crippling or disfiguring illnesses. The flu is a nuisance unless you're living in a third world country or are old. They're trying to sell people on it to squeeze more productivity out of the workforce, since people often take off work when they have the flu, or claim they have it to get out of work. The joke is, people often get really sick from taking it anyway.

Also, this flu vaccine is "seasonal."

From the CDC website:

"The “seasonal flu season” in the United States can begin as early as October and last as late as May."

So . . . how exactly to the authorities know when it begins? Do the germs issue a press release? Nobody knows there has been outbreak until a bunch of people get sick, and then they've already infected other people.

October to May is a very wide range of time for a "season" to begin; it renders the notion of a season almost meaningless.

Whether or not the government cares about preserving life has to do with whether or not there is a shortage or surplus of labor.

Western civilization could be designed for the greater preservation of human life; consider the prevalence of automobiles, bars that serve alcohol, and institutions that distribute toxic substances. Preservation of life was not was had in mind. And let's not forget about all the polluting that goes on willy-nilly.

With regard to the flu vaccine, they were likely sold a bill of goods on it, or more likely, induced and incentivized to sign off on the bill of goods, and now they'll tow the party line until they are dragged kicking and screaming away from it by inconvenient truth-bearing dissenters. Maybe less people would get the flu if they didn't have to work stressful jobs for barely any money, or if the environment were less toxic. But those problems cost money and threaten revenue streams, so instead, snake-oil flu "vaccines" that have to be updated every "season," like an anti-virus program and have the same success rate as a placebo!

I consider myself more skeptical and less trusting of authority than anyone I know, but even this is too much for me take seriously.

People really fucking like alcohol. A modern-day Prohibition would be no more effective than the ridiculous money pit that is the War on Drugs.

I, too, think this is a massive problem in America. For our country and planet, it's an environmental disaster. Long-term, we're going to be in some serious shit because of our short-sightedness and refusal to acknowledge the externalities that we're pumping into the atmosphere by the billions of tons--literally. Short-term, it's a problem for unprotected environments but not very many people.
