Call me crazy but I don't see anything chauvinistic about him. Everything that was perceived as "bad" was discussed in their relationship. She was fine with him having sex with other girls in front of her, and she met to his demands. There wasn't (as far as we know) any physical abuse going on. They aren't married, so she had the option to leave him whenever she wanted to. But she was addicted to the alpha and like OP said, women will share an alpha faster than getting their own beta. You can kinda see this as a huge shit test from her. She wants to see if she can crack the alpha into a beta by throwing him onto television.
