Ultimately, we are all stuck with ourselves. So much of our media is filled with people who live lives of degeneracy trying to show the world how great their life is. But when you go to bed at night, it is just you and your thoughts that remain. So too will be the case in the nighttime of your life. This is the time when it just you and your soul.

Will you be able to say truthfully that you lived a life of honour? Sex, drugs and social approval are all fleeting experiences that you can't take with you to the grave. You can barely take them beyond the fleeting moment they exist in. The only part of you that lives forever is the ripple you made in the continuum of human existence. We are one massive continuous entity instantiated in individual organisms. The ego of each organism seeks self preservation and self aggrandizement. It seeks selfish desires. But these selfish desires are only useful in that they keep the organism alive. Anything beyond this is poisonous to the organism. You can be selfish for food and drink, but dont be gluttonous. You can be aggressive when attacked, but don't be needlessly hostile and angry. You can desire sex so far as it leads to procreation, but don't be lustful. Anything beyond the neccessitous is harmful to you. Beyond this, what is good for the group is good for your soul.

Many monks with no worldly possessions are the happiest people on earth? Why is this? Because they live solely for the collective, and so their soul is at perfect harmony with the universe. Evil is derived from the selfishness of the individual, and ultimately leads to misery. This misery stems from a desire for absolute individual power, which is unachievable. The only absolute power is that of the collective soul. The only way thus to be truly happy is to live solely for the collective. The only way to do this is to be a good person.
