This is going to be an unusual post, and I'll be brief. We don't do product endorsements here and we're not activists, but since this is a place where we talk about Good Men, I want to point out that there are still a few places where masculinity is celebrated rather than condemned.

Ever since Gillette created their "Men Are Bad" commercial two years ago, I have not (knowingly) bought a single Proctor and Gamble product. It was such a public relations disaster that P&G reportedly lost around $5.24 Billion dollars in the next quarter... they took an $8B markdown from the Gillette division, which means they would have otherwise gained around $2.75B had they not gone out of their way to tell their customer base that they are "toxic." It might have been even more, since the boycott spilled over to other P&G brands.

Anyway, part of the backlash was in the form of a storm of videos criticizing the ad. A very small number of videos came out actively affirming masculinity. One of the best was by a little-known watch company named Égard , which was formed by Ilan Srulovicz as a tribute to his father.

His response to the Gillete ad is here (it's the third one down).

His tribute to his father is here (click on the link for the "Story of Egard").

Ilan also has a YouTube channel called "egardwatches" where he discusses issues surrounding masculinity. Some of those video are in-depth discussions and interviews that unabashedly celebrate the masculine. These guys are not PUAs, or woman-haters, or even MRAs... they are just Good Men, or as we used to say, "Manly men doing manly things in a manly way."

Check it out.

By the way, I am currently wearing one of these as I type.
