Solid points, especially the part about not being an asshole. I feel like a lot of guys try to become this salty cold sea captain who doesn't take any shit and walks with a scowl and a peg leg.
Your relationship isn't a 19th century whaling vessel, it's more like the love boat or a Disney cruise. You have to whether storms and steer the bitch but you also have to host karaoke night and judge the limbo contest.

Yeah, it's supposed to be devil may care, not angry chief

I failed miserably - all I needed to fail was failing on owning my shit (6) and I dialed dread too fast (7) - dread without rise in SMV won't work; how can you dial down presence if you're not present, I also acted like a "faux alpha" (9). I also failed on social stuff, friends is NOT enough, you just need social for social, gym does not count.
Surprisingly I find channeling anger into extramarital fucking (10) not as bad as those before, even if it sounds ridiculous to you, it shouldn't be. A really high quality male fucking not because of beta traits, but owning his shit elsewhere will take a SMV hit but can be forgiven, I believe. Unfortunately this was not my case.
I owned the rest but failing 6, 7, 8 and 9 was enough. Basically 60% means FAIL. I believe miserably failing one out of ten will mean total failure too.

I can get behind this. Half assed is not going to win anything.

No half-measures. Ever.

Yup... Go all in. If you're not saying "fuck yeah!", you will fail.

Solid points...
I would recommend using gloves with wrists straps though, grips minimum. Your hygeine can make up for rough hands, smooth your calluses. It won't however stop you from hurting your wrists and with the propensity of sedentery work being the norm most guys wrist already have some damage built in from computer/cubicle living.....
I have found that going to department stores trying on clothes and then finding them through an online retailer with coupons to be the cheapest way of upgrading.....
Add supplements to your diet, eating clean is great but there still are things a clean diet will miss especially as you age.....

Using wrist straps only is as well a solid option.

Printing this out. You reminded me to go back to the basics. I'm going to reread the pre-reqs.

Good comment. Sometimes we make things too complicated and get too deep—basics will fix a lot of problems. I'm speaking from experience.

10 - Anger: best analogy I've heard is to think like a seasoned pro quarterback instead of the 1st year college rookie. When shit flares up at home and you want to yell and get angry, that's like the rookie QB who will throw to the first guy he can when he's about to get crushed. You need to build up the mental tools to keep your frame and coolly throw the TD pass, not nuke and puke.
I learned this while in beta-bitch 'counseling' a few years ago, and was the only thing that was worthwhile. The main tool was Mindful Meditation (just clearing your head of all thoughts while out walking, being in the 'now', and being aware of all five senses. Shit actually works)
For everything, else (like the username says) I'm still the rookie but have swallowed the pill and making progress. I really have to start STFU'ing though.
A solid thanks for this post and for RP in general. I might not save my marriage but I'm DEFINITELY going to save myself.

No need to tell us you're a rookie in many things yet. That was a solid comment about anger; I'm definitely going to write it down and think about it. That's been my problem -- fly off the handle instead of staying calm. I think mindful meditation could really help me. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks! Here's probably the best resource I've found on mental preparation and focus: Psychological Skills Training Manual - United States Fencing Association 2001. I was given it when I fenced many years ago, but I believe is essentially the same Mindful Meditation skills that most athletes are given. If fact I'd say there are great parallels between fencing and RP but will save that for a different post. The main one is: it is absolutely NOT about how hard you hit or attack, because you're most likely telegraphing your intentions to your opponent (who is probably most skilled in sparring than you are.). It's about figuring out yourself, improving your core skills, finding and maintaining focus / frame, and then approaching the situation like a game of chess (think in terms of 'the whole board' not just winning one specific piece (argument.). You're not going to 'win', and it's pretty damn likely that you'll lose, if you let yourself get pissed because she took one of your pawns (or in fencing terms, because she got a touch / scored a verbal point against you). Use the skills you're honing to to see the whole chess board and win the whole damn tournament.
If I get a few positive responses maybe I'll do a full post talking about the things in the manual.. I feel like the rank newbie trying to teach the masters (and probably poorly at that) but hell, I'd like to ty to give something back and hopefully help others with their game.
Edit: same person as RP_rookie, just forgot my password and didn't link to an email account. Oh well it was my first RP post anyways.
Thanks for the link. I'm going to download it and read it.

I like it a lot! Great post that identifies some of the most common fails that we see.
