The lack of a stable caring environment can manifest itself in the victim wanting in turn to provide the same care that she never received. Yes, she has a tragic past, and never actually dealt with it. The way she copes is often times different for different people. Some people go through that same trauma and end up sleeping around constantly. Others end up turning into lesbians. This isn't random, this is all standard psychology 101.

This is of course, the most general cause of why she is the way she is. There could be many other reasons, such as her biological clock is ticking and she doesn't realize she wants to have kids.

If I'd hazard a guess, judging from the look of this Beksinski guy's artwork, I'd say its deep-seated self hatred. There could also be a measure of adopting an interest for the sake of being a member of a group. Was she generally into dark/goth/dystopian stuff, and was her social circle made up primarily of those kinds of people? Both of these are signs of a damaged or just empty personality.

But rescue dogs may be another matter. I admit I love those animal rescue TV shows. They disturb other people, but I watch them because so many stories end happily. Nevertheless I can only handle so much suffering.

Additionally there is the vacuous-sentiment factor, combined with attention-getting. If she posts pics of dogs with their lips bitten off in dogfighting, she will know that everyone else is going to say Awww and she will be raking in the Likes, which she will subconsciously attribute to herself. In that respect it works like Munchhausen-by-Proxy.

I have suspected that pets are extensions of the owner's ego. If these damaged dogs are extensions of her ego, then she may see herself as a helpless victim waiting to be saved. While according to RP doctrine that is typical of a woman's psychological profile, I think if it's gotten so overt that it characterizes the bulk of her social media preoccupations - assuming she herself is not actually an animal rescuer posting pics from work - then I would consider it a red flag. Lots of people post pics of horrible things while pleading for "someone" to do "something" - a useless sentiment that changes nothing. Superimposing a 50% transparency of the French flag over your profile photo didn't prevent Brussels. Posting pics of abused dogs does nothing ... to save abused dogs, that is. There is another purpose served there.
