Some people really like being miserable just so they can have something to complain about.

From my experience I've found that genuinely nice people tend to fare quite well in life. It is a combination of nice vs. Smart enough not to be taken advantage of. Genuinely nice people also know that kindness does repay itself even though they don't expect it (which makes them genuinely nice). You can be nice to everyone if such a way is your character but have the guile to sift out those worth helping and those who are ungrateful. Sounds like an oxymoron but sometimes you have to think like a snake to understand snakes.

This should be like a red pill rule, it's something that many of us have experienced. There seems to be some aspect of being a high value male where you want to be magnanimous to low SMV people, only for them to stab you in the back in the most brutal way.

Some RP-aware author (maybe it was "Illimitable Men") made the point that (many) low-status people have no loyalty, and therefore can't be trusted. The reason for this is that they are low on the totem pole and have no real investment in their social environment, and therefore they are always checking "which way the wind blows" and looking for opportunities to jump ship and/or sell someone out for their own (usually minimal and temporary) gain.

Many years ago, before RP even existed, I used to think that befriending low-status people was good because it showed I was a "good guy" (not stuck-up) and that they would be grateful for my kindness and friendship. Boy, was I wrong. These shitstains never hesitated to sell me out at the drop of the hat, and to get this entitled attitude, which kind of made sense since from the very outset of the relationship I was providing the majority of the value while they contributed very little. "No good deed goes unpunished and gratitude is rare."

Nowadays, I look for friendships with a mutual contribution of value to each others' lives. I still treat people with respect and kindness by default, but I won't get involved with people out of a sense of charity.

Long story short: Stay away from low smv or toxic people.

I ended up getting back in touch with a "low SMV" male friend a year back who told me he was going through some shit. I gave him so much of my time and good advice to try and help him but over the last year he ended up belittling me and gaslighting me constantly throughout with me thinking it was normal to be treated like shit and that I was just being too sensitive.

In the end (few months ago) I end up reacting and calling him out and he took no responsibility and never apologised for anything. Instead he tried to gaslight/manipulate me into thinking I'm over reacting and am the bad one plus he said the reason I'm over reacting is because I'm "mentally unstable" and "mentally not all there". It's been 3 months but his constant gaslighting throughout the year is making me still question reality, not sure what to believe.

Avoid these dark fukkers as much as you can. There's usually a good reason they're low SMV.

I was a misguided, confused, depressed and lazy person for most of my life. Once I turned around 32 (yes, I know), I wanted to change things. Now I'm 35 and finally about to get my own little home within the year. But let me tell you, most of my friends were in the same shoes as I. We definitely had a misery loves company group going. And as soon as I started taking baby steps toward improvement, they all got very nasty with me. At first it was confusing to me but now I have the experience and it made me wiser.

Those people almost never get treated nice because of their low SMVs. This is the way world is in right now, we all say that we care more about personality than looks and status, but that's just a blatant lie. Personality never matters unless the person you're dealing with has a great personality.
Because they're not being treated nice, they adopt a defense mechanism where they'll treat everyone bad in order to not give out any vulnerabilities. Not to have their trust broken, etc.
They want to earn the nice treatment. They know that they're low SMV, they develop self-hate, since they hate themselves, they hate other people who show affection towards them too. When you treat them nice, you remind them of the fact that they're low SMV, and think that you actually treat them nice out of pity.

It’s called the victim mentality, these kind of people are like crabs in a barrel. They won’t improve themselves because all of their life problems are due to some external source. Taking responsibility is too much of a burden for them so instead, they would rather you suffer like they do.

Hmm reminds me of a cousin of mine whom I'm not very fond of. Ever since he was a wee lad he has always felt the need to talk tons of shit and he even bullied me a bit when we were boys due to him being 4 years older and much larger. One day I found out that the reason he was always such a dick was because he actually had self esteem issues and in order to make himself feel better he developed a habit of trying to tear others down.

Anyways he never grew out of that habit and not surprisingly, these days he doesn't really have any friends that anyone knows of. He does have a girlfriend but other than that he lives alone and he's never been in a relationship longer than a year or so. When I see him at family functions he practically begs me to come over to his house and hangout but I don't because he's still a dick and as soon as he gets comfortable around me the dick side starts coming right out.

I think some people like my cousin are just toxic like that. They act like they could use a friend when sometimes all they really want is someone to abuse or to spread their toxicity to.
