Hey guys.

So I recently started reporting directly to the CEO of my company. I worked for the director previously and was part of that director's succession plan, but once he retired, the CEO decided not to promote me and have me report directly to him as a manager. One of his techniques to motivate me and others is to tell them what they're doing is not great to get them to do more and more.

Something new that he started doing this week is telling me essentially that I'm dumb or inexperienced if I don't agree with him on something, like the only right answer is his and it's not about having a viable differing opinion, but rather if you think different from him it's because you're not smart or are too inexperienced or have no business doing the job you're doing, basically forcing you to accept what he's saying, or otherwise face the pressure of just accepting that you're an idiot.

I immediately recognize what he's doing, but I was shocked when it first started and I've never had to deal with it before, and I don't know what to do. There are many other things he does, but I want to focus on the "if you don't agree with me you're dumb and have no business doing the job I gave you" issue.

How do I respond to this without getting fired?
