I just got the Rational Male in the mail, and it's my first dive into RP books. Before that I had watched a few hours of Rollo Tomassi where he discussed hypergamy. While the concept of hypergamy makes sense to me, I struggle to find real world examples I've seen to confirm it. For example, I've seen many girls who were in long term situations with their boyfriends get hit on while sober and they politely reject the advance, even when afterwards the girl admitted that guy was extremely attractive in her eyes. The only thing close to hypergamy I've seen is a friend of mine who got dumped and she branch swung like two weeks later to a guy she is still with to this day.

It seems like hypergamy is primarily seen the most in major metropolitan cities in the USA where economic power and quality of life overall is highest, and everywhere else on Earth sees it to a lesser extent. When one reads RP and studies hypergamy one gets the impression of vapid females branch swinging left right and center, high level manipulations etc etc. But living in midwest Canada I just don't see it played out to that extreme in the social circles I'm around. Maybe hypergamy and superficial relationships exist only in those social circles that frequent nightclubs and party scenes which is a minority of people 18-30.

If a 25 year old woman is living a middle class lifestyle with her boyfriend of 3 years, and somebody like Brad Pitt hit on her, I find it more likely she would reject him than roll with it for a fuck. However if Brad Pitt rolled up and was offering a long term commitment I believe it would be more likely she would branch swing, although many would not.

What are your experiences or observations on hypergamy playing out in the real world? Is the prevalence of hypergamy exaggerated by RP circles, or is it a constant part of day to day life?
