Thoughts on Cat Person?

December 12, 2017

Talking about the short story from the New Yorker that went viral.

Tl;dr: it's about this 20 year old woman who meets a 34 year old guy at a movie theater. They go on a date, she bangs him even though she doesn't think he's attractive and ghosts him afterwards on account of the regret she feels. She tells all her friends how bad he was, he keeps texting her and calls her a whore when she won't respond.

It's getting discussed a lot because a lot of women feel it's "relatable". What do you guys think?

That man is lucky all she felt was regret and not raped.

2017 is this bad I'm glad I'm going on a backpacking trip through the woods for 2018... What will remain when I return? Nobody knows!

34 yr old is stupid af for getting butthurt after a ONS that ghosted him.

If he had other options, he would have soft nexted, and pursued better / more enthusiastic potentials.

He wasn’t a ONS - they had a history of flirting over several weeks. But yeah he was a BP jerk for getting butt hurt

Holy crap that’s pretty cringe.

Let’s be real, that guy was like a “what not to do” case study in RP principles.

First he was a fucking slob dough boy with no evidence of trying to better his body.

Then, he acted needy and autistic at every turn.

His weird and uncertain behavior in bed was just the final nail.

I’m sorry, but I side with the girl here. I’ve had girls that I kind of “convinced” myself we’re ok, but eventually I realized I was just deluding myself.

I ghosted them.

I feel like I only read that whole thing because I don’t want to be studying for finals right now. He is a perfect example of everything not to do.

The only thing worth taking from this is that you're the best or worst thing in her world based solely on how she feels in the moment.

Remember that.

What the actual fuck is that story?

Both of them sound like idiots.

Holy hamstering. So it's about a guy she apparently ghosted yet he still haunts her mind enough to write a fucking novel lmao

He is unattractive. She hates having sex with him. Lesson: Be attractive. Don't be unattractive.

[–]BullshittingNonsense1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Relatable because many of the girls these days are whores

The "crazy" in crazy cat lady isn't there for nothing.

It’s the guy that had cats not the girl. Anyone actually read the story? It was a painful read though

From the start, this poor schmuck was painted as an easy target. It's pretty obvious he has been in the situation maybe, maybe once or twice in his life and he was extremely excited. At the end, he went overboard calling her a whore, but I've had to withstand far worse by girls I've ghosted (obvious psychos) so this by no means makes him a mysonginist. For whatever reason, in the mind of women this makes him a creepo, and a mysandrist.

It's easy for women to write it off as him being misogynistic; for whatever reason, women just can't fathom that a man might be inexperienced with women. This is inherently mysandristic, but no woman will ever admit to it.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
