I'll be going to university in a couple of months and I'll be moving halfway across the country into a large town (over 300k inhabitants). Not being someone to enjoy the noise and buzz of downtown areas, I'm planning to rent a larger apartment in the outskirts as it's calmer and also a lot cheaper there. The distance to my university and concordantly the "cool" parts of downtown is 25 minutes by subway and 20 minutes by car.
The question is: Will this distance jeopardize my social life? How likely is it that new friends will be coming to my place? What about pulling girls from downtown clubs if you have to drive for 20 minutes to get back to your place?
