Working out splits 7 days vs full body 3 days

What’s the difference and why is the 3 day one recommended more? I’m trying to more weight but still keep my muscle so I don’t see why I wouldn’t just do splits.

Also any other weight loss tips if you got any. Keto helped me a lot. Gonna add cardio

Edit: also I’m not a beginner. I’ve lifted for years but I definitely haven’t achieved peak potential
