Want to get into Martial Arts

Ik this isn’t the sub but I’m sure some of y’all have some experience. I want to get into Martial arts bc I feel like every mAn should have the power to defend themselves.

I’m far above average for teens my age (19) but I’m sure if I get into a fight, I humbly admit I don’t think I will be able to successfully defend myself without sustaining much injury. I’d also like to take this up as a new hobby and compete bc I have the urge to just fight. I’d like to release that energy other than the gym.

Which do y’all recommend? I’m tied between jujitsu or mauy thai.

Muay thai would be perfect if you want a practical martial art that would translate well into street fighting. I’ve done boxing for 3 years but I know for a fact it wouldn’t help much once someone charges me in a street fight due to no technique for grappling. Kick boxing is a mini step towards the right directions because of being able to use more range with kicks. Any martial art with grappling or closed in combat is really good since most street fights are done within 10 seconds of the first grappling. Learn how to do submissions and more importantly how to manipulate your opponent to win the fight as fast as possible. If they have a weapon RUN I don’t care how much of a pussy you think you’ll look like if they have a knife or anything worse you want to front kick their stomach and run.

Find a good MMA gym if you want to become a complete fighter. You will learn to strike and grapple. You can also cross train BJJ as its very fun and you can go 100% and still walk away home good and well (usually).

Well im 18 but i started boxing at 17. For me boxings the most fun to watch and do. But whenever i fight with my friends who do wrestling, i always get my ass whooped. So if your doing it for self defense id recomend something like bjj or just straight up mma cause if you can get someone to the ground and they dont know what to do then you pretty much win. But if youre doing it for fun then id recommend boxing cause i like that way more that learning ground game.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
