I'm thinking a lot about "gurlzgamerz" after this. And how much direspect they receive.

It occurs to me that female gamers don't necessarily recieve this. For instance, Queelag, who does Dark Souls videos, really doesn't cath any heat for being a girl or anything. WHy is this? Because she's one of the guys! And why is she one of the guys? Because she doesn't use the fact that she's female to accentuate her videos at all! Nobody watches her videos because she's a girl, not many anyway; people watch because her videos are good. Yes you can see she's a woman on camera, but it's never ever even worth calling attention to; if you did, people would honestly just look at you funny. Because it's simply not relevant. Everybody knows they'd be watching her videos whether she's female, male, or genderless interstellar ectoplasm.

Agree wholeheartedly. When I think about how girls are in real life (the relatively pretty ones) they get good treatment - Invited to parties, people talk to them, teachers / co-workers / bosses often treat them with more respect and amicability than other people simply for being born a girl. This results in entitlement and not having to do anything actually beneficial because they're already given everything. Take this privilege away and these images are the result.

As a boy, to get invited to parties etc, I have to actually do things, I have to actually be beneficial - being funny, a good guy to be around and have confidence. I noticed in my unfunny friends that they had don't get invited because they don't offer a good time to people or value, even if they look all right. Girls just don't offer things boys need to offer. Good looking girls get everything for nothing.

It makes me think about arcades.

When they existed and thrived women would go into the arcades expecting special treatment and aside from a free game every now and then they were treated as equals and judged on their gaming ability. Once most women realized their feminine abilities were lost on the arcade crowd they rejected it in mass and the arcade jockey was turned into a fat neckbeard that played games in dark rooms.

The moment the arcades die out and home gaming becomes a thing you start seeing women in mass try to interject themselves again into gaming but they learned their lesson. Now they complain how gaming is a male only industry and scream inequality. The majority of women voluntarily left gaming and choose to shame those that stayed but now that its become more popular and unescapable they claw for their piece of the pie under the false pretenses that men were the ones that kept them out of gaming with our anti female culture.

Very good points by both posters, but let me add another aspect. Tits or GTFO is a deterrent, but it is also a transaction. A lot of people go to /b/ to find porn, most of it amateur. So to tell a 'femanon' on /b/ to post 'Tits or GTFO' is to name a price for a trade: we have something you want and we can give you (attention) and in exchange, we ask for something you have and we want (naked pictures). This is rightly called "attention whoring" since the transaction involved a woman's sexuality.

I for one love 4chan in some regards. I think the complete anonymity breeds complete honesty. Yeah its a little rough around the edges in terms of letting people degrade into racist idiots but for the most part, if you want a completely blunt and honest opinion, 4chan is the way to go.

I completely agree. The Internet is a place for free expression, due to the fact that one can enjoy safely from shaming, ostracism, or ridicule when expressing opinions.

When 4chan says they are a genderless collective, they are mistaken. It is most definitely a male collective, to be sure. Perhaps some are unaware, but they have invented memes such as "tits or gtfo" in order to keep women away. Of course, this is futile as women are likely to make themselves available as groupies to bands of men, regardless of their level of misogyny. Before 4chan, there were biker gangs. Biker gangs also had no shortage of "whores" willing to do whatever it takes for inclusion into the group. What society often overlooks is the power of a tight knit group of men. Such a group possesses a synergistic amount of survival value. That is to say, that the group of men has more survival value than the sum of the survival value from the individual members.

When such a group forms, women will undoubtedly want to be a part of it. 4chan or anonymous is such a group. Let's be clear here, all the memes, hacktivism, and famous threads that have sprung forth from 4chan were created by men. It's no wonder women want to be a part of the prestige. From an evolutionary perspective, being a part of such a powerful and notorious group would ensure survival and good reproductive prospects.

Of course, in the case of 4chan, no such benefit actually exists for women. It's much like men being attracted to pornography: our monkey brains can't help but keep coming back to it, yet we enjoy no tangible benefit as a result.

1) Male space comes into existence. It is characterized by a small population, genuine interest, and, if applicable, a generally impartial (truth seeking) attitude. Usually, the average age is at its highest at this point (more people in their late 20s and 30s).

2) Said space grows in popularity, mostly with other males. The original space often loses its original character in some way, while the beliefs become more mainstream. (example: the "Paleo" diet used to be more science based several years back, now it's becoming an emotionally justified excuse for people to eat borderline ketogenic diets with lots of bacon)

3) Because of the space's newfound popularity, more females begin to join. This may alter the nature of the space even further, depending on what it was originally founded on. The more specific the original creation was, the less it'll change; if it was a socially based site first and foremost, the addition of women will change the dynamic drastically, effectively killing the original creation. A website for crossbow hunters will always be about crossbow hunting. A website for general discussion of various topics (sound familiar?) will change drastically.

I've seen this happen with a bunch of websites, movements, games, the internet itself, etc. In the case of websites and games, they may become more technically advanced with popularity (website designs become more aesthetic and modern, and possibly complex, online games may move from an IRC based client into a more accessible browser version, video game graphics and features become unnecessarily complex).

tl;dr: Quality leads to popularity leads to femininity. Actually, a similar thing happens with businesses, but with quality leading to popularity leading to stagnation and decline.

I've been visiting 4chan for over 8 years, not quite there from day naught but closer than most, it's harshness is a function of anonymity plus lack of rules. But those things aren't secret, it's right on the front page and immediately obvious when you browse /b/, no one on /b/ is forcing you to browse, much less post.

That is why I never have any sympathy for this kind of thing, some females deal with it OK they remain anonymous and shitpost like everyone else and no one knows any different, but some just can't help themselves but cry for attention, posting pics of themselves or starting with "femanon here".

The function of getting attention in real life with the vague promise of seeing some flesh or getting some action cannot be replicated online in this space, either you go directly to posting something of value (tits with a time stamp) or you GTFO, there's no room for promises or attention otherwise, women have to get used to the fact that doesn't work on /b/.
