I'm a software developer fresh out of college 22-25. Working on a team of five people currently and the advice here of "don't get married in today's day and age" couldn't be more clearly illustrated than by my coworkers.

The team lead is a patriarch, he's married but is mid 50s and appears to wear the pants. He goes hunting and fishing with his buddies regularly and is a firm but rewarding leader. Clearly though 30 years ago was a vastly different time to get married.

Now we have the betas, beta number 1 is mid thirties with two kids. He's an amazingly talented developer and his time is constantly sought by many different teams. He doesn't take vacation time so that he can work more overtime to support his wife who get this, doesn't work, yet they still take one of their kids to daycare because "she can't handle it" yet this guy never says that he can't handle his gargantuan workload. he just works harder.

Betas 2 and 3 are identical. They are about 27, recently married. The other day I heard them complaining about their wives not letting them buy a gaming keyboard, and a new tv respectively. They probably make about 10 - 15k base more than me, yet they can't afford toys which I have because of their wives leeching their money. they also haven't taken a vacation all year, and work overtime almost every week.

I go on vacations all the time. I make more than enough money to save for a house and retirement and still have my toys without working overtime. All because I'm a healthy young and SINGLE man. I'm no Chad (yet) but I still can manage to date a few women at a time and I can tell that I am much happier than my overworked and stressed colleagues.

So if you want to work your ass off so that you can go home to the same complaining woman every day and do nothing fun, get married.
