Being diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma and being told I have 3-6 months to live.... if the treatment won’t work..

If someone told me 6 months ago I’ll be back in work full time, lifting 4 times a week and fucking girls from tinder and playing day game at the mall and occasionally bring a girl back to my bed 30 mins after a cold approach.. I would call them a liar.

Facing my mortality and fighting through cancer has give me the strongest frame I could wish for.

I realised that I don't have to wait for anything or anyone to make me happy and I just have to find happiness inside me. In the past, I was spending a lot of my time looking at people on social media thinking how much fun they have and that I'm not worthy of it. Now I see everyone as who they are and I'm just happy with myself.

I realized after finishing school and starting my career that everything I valued in my life was a direct consequence of the decisions and work I put in. I now have a body I'm proud of because I spent years in the gym, I make good money because I busted my ass off in school, and I have good friends because I really connected with them and helped them get through struggles - as they helped me.

This realization confirms that my life is in my hands, I decide how I want it to be. And the best part is, I just have to continue these efforts and future me will reap even more benefits.

Surviving cancer 9 years ago gave me a new perspective. Make the most out of the time that you have and surround yourself with people you love. Just when you think you've got it all figured out everything can collapse in a few seconds. Since then I've spent years travelling the world, trying out new experiences, meeting a ton of people, and advancing my career. I make more money than I ever have in a career I find truly fulfilling and my ample free time is filled with invigorating experiences. It's worth the hard work and time to create a lifestyle that makes you happy.

Money is really this arbitrary obsession. I still prefer to make lots so I can pursue amazing opportunities but really once you hit “your number” , just walk away dude.

Don’t chase the bigger house, mansion, etc. there is always some higher level and it never ends. If that’s the game you love to play then by all means but if you feel like your hitting arbitrary metrics then just walk away.

If you can’t walk away. You don’t own your money-your money owns you.

Travel. Start a charity. Live life fully & freely. Meet amazing people and fill your head with amazing memories

The whole structure of giving women what they need vs giving them what they say they want or need was pretty difficult to really hammer down.

It really fixed problems in my entire life. I basically view every person I engage with daily as if he or she is a woman that doesn't know how to communicate. I read through the lines and take right action and shit runs smoothly now. Before I was really good about giving people exactly what they said they wanted, needed, and doing exactly what they said it was alright for me to do.

In many cases, my actions that I verbally gained consent to take, were totally fucking wrong. People are just shit at saying know, or have no idea how they will emotionally be effected by those actions.

You have to know and understand those social dynamics clearly enough to take right action, but most people are very simple to read and understand. You make mistakes, but only with new people. If you've known someone a few weeks or months and you don't know clearly what actions they enjoy and will motivate them to really let you in, you haven't been paying attention close enough.

I describe 2018 as three years crammed into one for me:

Shattered

- Learned in my penultimate semester of nursing school that becoming an RN was a glass ceiling

- Learned the relationship I had at the time was a recreation of my parents' pathological marriage

- Learned that my family dynamic is way more toxic than I realized

- Learned my ex, mom and sister have BPD

- Learned I had issues of codependency due to my abusive childhood and experience in nursing school

- Learned I was being lied to by people who said they loved me

Changed

- Learned what real love is

- Learned what healthy relationships are

- Learned I am way more valuable than I give myself credit

- Learned that God/the Universe will give you want if you know what it is and you ask for it

- Learned that I am responsible for myself first, and other people who apply to me second

- Learned that I have the capacity to make my way of success, and smart and hard work outweighs luck

Right before entering college, Josh Pellicer from Tao of Badass flipped my world upside down. A LOT of what he taught on basic human behavioral psychology had me dive down the world of the "subconscious mind."

I learned REAL behavioral psychology and how the human mind ACTUALLY works.

The kind of stuff you WISH you learned when you took Psych 101 for the fuck of it. Once you dive down that path, you realize how many people around you live on "auto-pilot." You learn to talk to people's subconscious mind, and understand what they REALLY want. It was around this time I woke from that "auto-pilot" stage to realize people appreciate "take charge" and "leadership" types. I spent my youth being the "what can I do to make people happy, how can I serve them best" kind of person. That is when I realized 70% of people out there are exactly like this. We don't have a "people need help so let me be the nice guy" problem, we have a "too many fake nice guys who offer nothing to the world but will so weird favors in 'hopes' you will repay them down the line" problem. Even without favors, the "feelz" from doing good things becomes enough of a reward to them, as long as they are viewed as "good people" I guess.

In university my final project was a research dissertation with topic of my choosing, at the time I was a feminist so I chose to write about the effects of culture and victim blaming on the low trial rate of rape cases. What I found probably wouldn't surprise you, female accusers were usually given the benefit of the doubt, more resources, more positive representation in the media, and generally more likely to be believed even with poorer evidence than their male counterparts.

Not only that but the questions I had been told were victim blaming such as:

"What were you wearing? Were you drinking? Did you say no?"

Have nothing at all to do with victim blaming, the police ask because they're trying to help the accuser by creating a clear picture of what you looked like, what you were doing, and what the situation was in order to find witnesses that can corroborate your story. Most accusations do not proceed to trial purely because there's no evidence, the accusations are withdrawn, or the accuser is non-cooperative. Male accusers on the other hand do face prejudice, are far more likely to be questioned about why they couldn't have prevented or stopped the rape, and are assumed to have enjoyed or participated freely so "it's not really rape, after all what teenage boy didn't want to fuck the hot teacher?"

My dissertation received a lot of criticism, and what sticks with me to this day is the comment that:

"Rather than using raw data from the DOJ and police training materials, it would have been better if you had used more academic resources. I would be more than happy to help you find acceptable scholars from which to source your data, such as Alexandra Rutherford or Susan Brownmiller."
