I’m 28. Been best friends with these dude since I was 12. Now that we are older and getting much busier i haven’t been hanging out with this guy, sometimes months on end. Long story short, I found out this guy blocked me on Instagram (I still don’t know why). Confront him about it, even almost getting into a physical fight with him. This guy is all about social media image and posts pics of him traveling, partying, driving in expensive cars, etc. I meet with him later and his excuse was “ it’s just social media bro, don’t take it personally, you all (close circle of friends I have) are like family and you know it”.

I told him “ a true friend wouldn’t block friends and wouldn’t care about image, doesn’t matter if you’re broke, asian, white, Spanish, gay, whatever”. Blocking or deleting a childhood friend is a serious red flag in my opinion, all for just social media presence. It may sound petty, but that’s a serious offense to delete your friend who grow up with just to look good for the gram. As a side note, we used to joke around and tag each other in stupid shit and just play around messing with each other. I have a hunch, that being friends with me on social media, would make him look bad. I have also have another hunch that he may be jealous for whatever reason, as he just graduated undergrad college at 27-28, struggling to find a job right now, while I finished graduate school and in a decent career in the health care field.

So I decided to put this asshole on neutral ground, not hanging out with him, and only seeing him occasionally when all of our other friends are there. I definitely don’t think my friendship with this dude will be as a strong as when we were kids. Redpill brothers, was I right, or just overreacting over social media?

TLDR: “best friend” since grammar school blocked me on social media, is known to flex on gram, confronted him and told him that true friends wouldn’t care, decided to occasionally hang out with him only if necessary
