When I was studying biomedical sciences that's what I was thought and we did an experiment on it. About 200 boys and 300 girls had to do numerous IQ tests, and after they were all done the average showed that men scored about 3 points higher on average than women. Small sample group, I know. Well we had annual raises, which were a percentage of your salary and dependended on your performance (average performance = 2% raise, excellent performance = 8% raise plus one or two months salaries bonus and chance at promotion). It's the starting salary that was negotiable though, so you're starting at a worse spot when you don't negotiate there. I absolutely screwed up my negotiations. It was my first real job and I had no idea how those negotiations work. I was way too eager to say yes and too shy to ask for more.
