I think calling them the Left is what distills the term and shifts the Overton Window more and more Right. The Left has an implicit drive towards equality and misandry isn't that. It's also worth noting that very often the misandrist crowd are quite specifically wealthy or middle class, college educated white women with very little to say about Capitalism so they're Neoliberals.

Equality looks like no one having any particular 'natural' or unearned privilege, not different people having a privilege than the people who've been privileged in the past. This is a fact that people - and I hate to say it, but especially Americans - utterly hate.

One of the similarities between the Democrats and Republicans is that neither of them are the 'friends' of men, but one of the key differences is that the Republicans at least pretend to be friends with men.

We need to move away playing into the Neoliberal/Right Wing trend of calling identity politics 'leftist'. Was Hillary Clinton a 'Lefist'? No. Are huge corporations who champion this stuff 'Lefitst'? Absolutely not. They're the antithesis. If Leftism concerns itself with equality and fairness over hierarchy, it simply cannot exclude Class, and a lot of takes that involve Identity Politics do exactly that. Just because the dominant party opposed to the Extreme Right in the USA is in opposition, do…

He makes some good points that are mangled up with his ideology. The pressure to 'be manly' and do those things that - frankly - women of all political and ideological persuasions find either too dirty, dangerous or 'masculine' to do themselves is what creates these Conservative dudebros that are 'a dime a dozen', while the women chase fewer and fewer men who are - basically - lucky enough to not have to compete to be all the things that 'make a man', but have also somehow fallen more on the sid…

Apparently watching other people 'fail' is #femaleempowerment, and yet it's 'men' who created this world that's hellbent on being viciously competitive. Seems kind of hypocritical that others' failures automatically mean your success, but ok. I'd expect nothing less from Neoliberals to be honest. They're basically Right Wingers who laud 'the hierarchy' while pretending to hate it in order to claim some sort of moral high ground on the Left. They don't hate extreme hierarchies and the tyranny and…

Then they're not really Left Wing. It'd be like if a bunch of Christians went around declaring themselves Christian except for the fact that this didn't believe that Christ was the son of god and only cherry-picked the bits of his teachings they liked. Would anybody let those people define what Christianity is? I don't think so.

This is completely by design. The Left is the Left, defined by ideological concepts. It concerns itself with power being distributed more equitably as opposed to a Right Wing which lauds hierarchy. There's been an attempt to cast people like Feminists and people more interested in identity politics as 'The Left', but if 'The Left' defines itself by concepts like equal rights, it can't just ignore arguably the most significant inequality out there just because it benefits so many people in that f…

Right, but that requires correctly identifying who's oppressor and oppressed and to what extent something is 'oppression' or not. Also those are two words that can just be exchanged with the Right Wing expressions of 'Freedom/Liberty' versus 'Commie Tyranny'.

People would defend him because of all the reasons I listed, I think. It's not about a persons actions and choices, it's about teams, sides, demographics and point-scoring. You will absolutely find people who'll still witlessly defend "Bob the Rapist" even though they know he's a villain and that rape is wrong, but because of some weird, essentialist belief that they simply must downplay or deny every bad thing men do being highlighted because they need to defend against overwhelming misandry. Did he make that call before or after sleeping with her? I thought it was after, but I saw the film a little while ago and can't quite recall. If it was before you're absolutely right though, and I'm just misremembering. I think I recall people telling me about how awful that scene is because the expression on her face tells you that she's trapped in there and not fully into it, meaning it's one of the first clues you get that this is what's happened, and I seem to remember it being part of thei…

I'm with you here. I am not of the opinion Misandry doesn't exist and isn't fairly prevalent in society, but these guys are exhibiting the perpetual-victim mindset they claim that the everyday misoj crowd are addicted to. Honestly. It's starting to feel like two groups of people are trying to out-parody one another in how they see their chosen boogeyman everywhere. The problem with the stats is that they undermine everyone's arguments that one gender is doing it 'more', or at least put extremists in positions where they're forced to contradict themselves minute-to-minute in order to prop their bigotry up. For instance: people will point out that women 'do it more' and if they have stats to support that argument, certain women will say 'Well obviously because we're the ones who look after kids more, so it'll skew the numbers!' But for some reason that logic…

Unfortunately there's always someone foolish enough. This sort of shit can be discouraged by these women not being picked, but I think a lot of men are just too desperate, and really shouldn't be. Same works the other way, too. Women could discourage a lot of behaviour by not picking certain men.

I find in interesting how many people in life believe (or in most cases I think pretend to believe) that the key to fighting the 'oppressive power' they say they are a victim of, is to become an oppressive power themselves. The kind of impositions placed on men and women BY men and women alike simply wouldn't exist if it wasn't something of a two way street. Harmful gender norms are like tension in a rope - it's only staying tight and not changing because two roughly equal forces are pulling in opposing directions, not because one force dictates everything. If men (codified as 'patriarchy') really had all the power, there'd be fuck all wrong with being a man. 'The Patriarchy hurts men too', thus doesn't make much s…

My first thought was that this would make men - who are already fairly hesitant to see Therapists when they need to - even more reluctant to speak to someone about their mental health issues. I imagined my son, struggling, seeing something like this. I complained about this in the so-called 'mens lib' sub where it was posted, so they temporarily banned me for 'violating the rules'. Everything about this meme seems wrong and probably made up. A "husband stitch" at a C-Section? That doesn't make sense. Also when your child's being born via C-section it's a fairly emotional moment for the parents and it's a day at work for the people delivering. There's very little room for Tumblr-level repartee.

Nah. It's definitely a weird affectation, sorry, and it does seem a bit dog-whistley when the likes of Tate use it. Even if you're right (and I'd argue that you are - there's a historical precedent for misogyny that exists across numerous cultures although it's certainly to do with more than simply 'man bad!' or it wouldn't have persisted) and it's never been the reality before, why would making it the reality be a solution to th…

I can't overstate the importance of men having friends. Decent friends too and - critically - female friends, who you either don't want to date, or did want to date once, it never happened, and now you're great friends. I'm married with kids. I have a handful of female friends I might've dated once upon a time, but for various reasons it never happened. I am beyond glad. My wife and kids are wonderful, and dating these women would have ruined us and destroyed our friendships.

I think you're completely right with your wish, more men need this. I think you're a bit misguided with the belief that it's just for 'fucks' though. Honestly as enjoyable as sex is, I think for a lot of the lonelier men out there (who've basically been trained to believe that they're disgusting) are really after the implied 'approval' or acknowledgement sex brings with it. If you can 'get a woman to have sex with you', suddenly you're a more 'acceptable' kind of man, and not just to other men b…

You're half right. The problem is that men are told to examine and 'check' themselves, particularly when what they unthinkingly want could negatively affect women. The opposite is not true. Women 'getting what they want' is sort of uncritically seen as the opposition to women not being granted the freedoms men traditionally have. Suddenly though, you can't tell women to appraise their own thoughts, feelings, wants etc. with a more critical eye.

Why are you responding to an argument I didn't make? I said that meeting the standards of what counts as fit now generally necessitates being at the gym all the time. I never said this precluded men from being in relationships if it didn't happen. Now, the men in those relationships being seen to not meet an obscene "standard?" Sure. It’s attractive to be fit. It’s not attractive if your whole life is about going to the gym. I mean sure, in a sensible, well-rounded world, yes. For most people, though, simply 'being fit' in the eyes of your preferred mate necessitates always being at the gym. I know that's not ideal, but life's not ideal for the vast majority of people, and that seems to be the hardest pill of all for people (and I have to point out the elephant in the room: by people I mostly mean Americans) to swallow.

The 'men are stronger' has been a redundant answer to a lot of things for a very long time right now. I think this is true in terms of bio essentialism, but in terms of what's societally acceptable we create different allowances, rules and support networks for men and women that are impacting how people are treated. Men are in a strange position right now. Ultimately it's become completely socially unacceptable to be undesirable to women, or even to make peace with that and choose the life of a bachelor. Objectification IS a thing. Sometimes people DO treat the other badly, not caring for their internal experience. But sooooo many times it is brought up purely based on assumptions and vibes in the context of men's complaining. I think it goes beyond sex and sexuality, too, and it makes it kind of baffling that it's the way it's most regularly used. Not true. Dating for me was bad in my teens, got really hard in my early 20's, was GREAT in my early 30's, and I imagine if I got divorced now in my 40's as a man, would be terrible. It tends to follow life patterns, rather than just getting 'worse'. My unpopular opinion is that the answer to: 'who has the advantage in dating, men or women?' is answered with 'it depends at what stage in your life you're at'. No. If you're trying to argue this from a biological/cultural perspective, women prefer …

A lot of governments and movements 'get away' with enacting unjust policies by bringing one gender down to the level of another's problems, rather than elevating both. It's still technically 'equality', but they know that they can stoke the fires of emnity to put people in situations where they're more useful for the powerful while those same people turn their ire towards one another.

TRP seems to vascilate between being about 'accepting' how shitty dating and strict gender dynamics are because they seem like they're "natural" (which is a pinnacle example of Appeal to Nature if ever I saw one, as well as being a very simplistic story) and being a retaliation against the perceived hatred against men spread by third wave feminism. The problem is trying to force everything through the rough lens of gender where it isn't appropriate. There are only two reasons to do that: One, you're mistakenly looking at something as gendered when it isn't (the whole of violence), or two you're intentionally trying to do exactly what you're accusing me of doing: dismissing people exactly based on their gender by saying 'Men don't know what this is like because they're monsters, why isn't our safety default!' But in 90% of the cases, their murdered is another man. Yes. Yes I covered that when I said 'the ones that do the killing and dying'. Men - whether they want to or not, and many aren't stupid, so they don't 'want to' - are expected to perform the violence inherent in human nature. We need to show (women AND other men, so no, not just men) that we can fight and die precisely because we're assumed to 'have less value'. That's an appeal to nature mind you. But nor is men's safety 'default'? Dudes die more at everyone's hands than anyone else. There are also a fair number of decent videos dismantling his ethos, as well as good coverage of him on the Podcast 'Behind the Bastards'. Ultimately he is about repackaging (particulaly the US) increasingly extremist status quo, and being sesquipedalian in an effort to act like he's arrived at his point via intellectualism.

This is very true, although the older I get, the more I realise what a time limit there is to that privilege. Yeah. The question is a bit of a strawman. It should be 'Why do men feel they shouldn't have to pay for children who've literally been taken away from them?' /r/PurplePillDebate23/02/25 09:44 AM

Don't tell me others are 'suddenly against' what has been an IMPOSITION for a long, long time. You can do what you want with whatever woman decides to live that life with you, but you're the one here crying about other people choosing a different, fairer path. You're suggesting men run away - and it IS running away - because your version of a relationship isn't what ALL relationships look like now.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/02/25 07:01 PM

These women are often willing to cook, clean, and embrace traditional gender roles—qualities that are increasingly rare in the West. These aren't 'qualities', they're bullshit outdated inpositions from a very slim slither of history that has been unjustly exalted. Clean up after yourself. Learn to cook your own fucking meals. Women don't have a specific set of tasks they owe you and vice versa, they need to pick up their fucking game, too. In a good relationship you're a team. Things just contin…

They probably see 'taming' you as some sort of challenge that would affirm how manly they are. It's sad that their locus of control for 'being a man' depends - ultimately - on your approval, but that's what happens when a person's strict ideas about 'what a man/woman is' clashes with their internal, far less clear-cut self image.

I appreciate that. I do think you're sort of saying 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps, that's the answer!' though? I think you overestimate how much control other people have over their situation because you've managed to discover control you didn't know you had, and assume other people must have those opportunities too. Not everyone's in that boat. People fall into wallowing in sadness for a good reason - it's not as simple as just saying them 'making better choices'. I think what I'm saying…

They lecture for themselves, not for you. It's the reinforcement of a narrative, rather than genuinely helpful advice. I think people get caught up either throwing themselves wholesale into the comforting 'bootstrap' narrative (usually if they've been successful in some way), where everything can be overcome with determination, or into the equally unhelpful 'I'm just a product of my environment' narrative, where nothing is anyone's fault and everyone's just a vitim. The lazy answer in this conundrum is the one we've been hearing over and over and over since, well, basically the dawn of time. Work on yourself, men. It's not advice anyone particularly needs because it's advice baked into the very nature of dating (side note: the same model of dating people have been complaining about for about a decade now, because of all the 'harmful gender impositions' it foists on everyone) in fact it's been hammered in, and is starting to look more and more like an excuse…

They are not wrong to do so, but the lesson to be learned is that looks > personality. It doesn't sound like you're being quite so even-handed here though. The fact of the matter is that as long as someone is attractive enough, or has one or two features that might be considered attractive, then personality can indeed win over, but it'll often require you being friends first. That's not the point at all though, is it. Men are expected to put in equal effort at home because that's what's fair (and I agree). However they're also expected to be the breadwinner to even be considered worthy in the first place, despite increasingly making the same as women. It's classic contemporary humanity: I want to have my cake and eat it, too.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/02/25 04:15 AM

Who gives a fuck? You'll never have a fulfilling, happy, decent relationship while one of you continues to try desperately to control the other. If it's suiting you, he will eventually realise it doesn't suit him, and leave.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/25 10:17 AM

Yes. BOTH need to die. Unfortunately people want to have their cake and eat it, too. Nope. That's not how this works.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/25 10:08 AM

The 'make him pay for it' shit though is just power dynamics that need to die too. I notice those 'noble' guys telling her 'how it is' aren't around anymore either. Fancy that. Society is being turned into a kindergarden to coddle neurotic minds while governments and corporations are turning into parents. This is a wild take. I mean, no? As 'the Red Pill', you're leaning into assumptions and impositions around gender and dating, surely? By TRPs own arguments about culture, you're not 'batting frequently for men' because 'men' implies a majority, and a majority of men don't fit into TRPs austere rules about what makes a 'real man'. So you're cheerleading for the men you'd date, but by TRP's own ideas, that's not most men, and by that qualifier, it's not really fair to say you're batting for 'men' then.

I think the weight thing is a bit of a sly trick, personally. Women will say 'well I don't mind a bigger guy, so I'm not shallow!' but that's just because men and women have different directions in terms of preferences for norms in that regard. Women do it too - they'll keep going for the toxic asshole described above. The whole reason this has gotten worse rather than better, and hasn't really deviated is because we…

I think the point being made is that your example woman no longer had to think 'I made some pretty poor choices there! Perhaps I should reflect on them?' and can instead turn around to some less handsome, less successful guy and scream 'this is all YOUR fault!' at him. Doesn't exactly make for a constructive, progressive solution to the issue.

Funny how you can think this while simultaneously insisting that men have all the power and benefits in romantic relationships. Since they're so desperate for approval and so defeated by rejection the two narratives don't quite add up, do they.

And yet there are enough people complaining across the genders when someone who meets their 'standards' then turns abuses the power that gives them, rather than that person magically changing into the perfect partner willing to both submit to you, whilst also, contradictorily, not falling short of ridiculous standards. Which tells you that somewhere along the line people's standard have been severely warped, and have increasingly little to do with what will make a person happy. Everyone needs to…

A bit like how dudes say they don't 'want to be lonely' but turn around and reject or ignore women who aren't up to their standards? I've noticed that there's an awful lot of 'have your cake and eat it' mentality amongst the men and women who have the most vociferous opinions about what's fair and what isn't, what equality is and what it isn't, and what other people should and shouldn't be doing. Ultimately if we want things to be better, we need to keep both others AND ourselves a little bit mo…

More, honestly. But I don't think you're 100% right - plenty of women agree. The key is isolating and highlighting them as the exception, and not the norm.

There are some big assumptions (much like the sort of negative assumptions you see about women on this sub, too) that men just feel nothing for their own children when they're born, irrespective of whether or not they wanted them in the first place. If you start seeing men as human beings, you'll realise that they go through their own rollercoaster of emotions and biological responses when their child is born, and the idea that most men would or even can just shrug off a child because they "can'…

What I find amazing is that romantic feelings IN relationships often change, die, have to be worked on given enough time... ... so why do people treat them as a be all and end all OUT of a romantic relationships. Feelings come and they can go. Space is good (although sometimes it can just lead to fantasism) but I don't personally think (and know first hand being on both the giving and receiving ends) that it spells the end of a friendship.

Nothing BUT problems. In short there's no either sensible or decent reason to like 90% of what he says, or - if you do - to believe that he'll be consistent and follow through with any of it. When approaching dating, people tend to see one another as broad strokes examples of either men or women, and I think the wider experience is one far more in line with grim stereotypes than everyone being glittering examples of individuality. Especially if people have fallen foul of these generalisations in some way. Society view people as consumers and producers, and as dating consumers manipulating them becomes easier by making sure people all 'like' the same things. It'll mean people will kne…

People who hold extreme, reductive, bigoted views will always do this. It's impossible to distill people down to a sort of caricature evil figure without accidentally dragging some fellow humans down into it at the same time. Since the whole point of these views is convenience, they just contradict themselves minute to minute as an extra bit of smokescreen against the complete lack of consistent reality at the core of what they're saying.
/r/PurplePillDebate24/12/24 02:37 PM

It's obviously not a monolith, but it is pretty pervasive across many parts of the country I saw. No wonder dating has become such a shitshow. It's like a sort of weird, escalating arms race, and yet ultimately the point isn't competition but union with someone. I know that's a scary word too, though.

It's the same situation as with the current, dominant Right. Not all Right Wingers are racists, nazis and so on, but they're more than willing to amplify the voices of those people or tacitly accept what they're saying/allow/encourage them to say it even if they don't believe it themselves.... just so long as they get to stay in power. Same amongst the Neoliberals (let's hesitate before trying to paint them as Leftists, and doing the Right Wing's job for it). They're interested in grandstanding …

I think it might be partially generational? Men who are now in their 60's are still part of that generation of guys who went to work while their wives stayed at home and did X, Y and Z. Now they're divorced, these guys still have to work (or many are lucky enough to be retired, a luxury Millianls down to Gen Z will never experience) and spend more time in the unfamiliar realm of domesticity. If you can't cook for yourself properly, you won't eat properly. If you can't clean or do any of the stuf…

Mhm, yes, this story comes up a lot and is one all-too-familiar to me as a late Millenial too. My ex (longest-term partner outside of my wife) reserved her 'All men are evil' cudgel for basically gross weirdos she didn't like or who were difficult to interact with. She was falling over herself to be a groupie for frontmen who borderline SA'd young women though. She of course ran off with one of them, and because she's never faced consequences for her actions (there's always another guy around to…

Oh of course! Completely agree. But that initial attraction is how relationships happen in the first place, so it's - regrettably - important. And as a first step it's not great to be going into it thinking 'Eurgh, they'll do." The culture reflects the stats too, with the classic 'bumbling, crap husband' and 'implausibly smart and attractive wife' permearing pop culture. Speaking purely qualitatively my own experiences don't 100% reflect the OkC stats. It's about half-and-half, and one half defi…

For years we've (quite fairly) been told that men's rampant desires cause women's body issues. We've been shown women of varying shapes, sizes, ages and appearances and been told 'These are REAL women.' I think that's great. I also think it's an axe that swings both ways, though, and in the land of 'I want to have my cake and eat it too' that manifests itself as an ironic: 'Well I can date whoever I find attractive, but you can't because of all the damage it does!' Mmm no. So can dudes. And when…

Well I mean there you go. Everyone with a voice who has something to say about men isn't talking about what their actual experiences and societal expectations are. They're either all unanimously the evil, privileged elite, or their weak and floundering crybabied who nonetheless should cry, because that's being in touch with your emotions, oh but also you need to man up, otherwise you're a crybaby. Men - in much the same way as woman - exist as contradictory concepts based on what we need them to…

Silenced majority. Or didn't you see what happened to OWS and Bernie? As I've said they can't really be 'The Left' if they hate the working class, which is mostly made up of men. If you look at the rest of the world you might realise that the USA has a party who are economically, environmentally and materially Far Right and Centre Right wing, and on social issues who are Centrist, and Far Right. The working class is mostly men. The Left should by it's very definition of being 'Left', be focusing on issues of the widening wealth divide and class problems, so by definition, shouldn't be 'anti-men' since this largely includes them. If someone's being anti-men, it doesn't mean what the 'Left' is has changed, it just means that the thing being called 'Left', isn't actually Left. Nah, they're the same. That's the point. No one is an island. We all either do or have depended on others throughout our lives. Just like you might argue that Feminists act like they don't need men (until they do), hyperindividualists (though I don't know anyone who self-identifies as that) act like they don't need anyone, which is equally untrue.

I think this is the erroneous thinking that contemporary gender politics have helped muster up as a smokescreen. 'Who has the power' isn't unimportant but the answer is increasingly either those who already had the power, or those willing to steal it indiscriminately. Yes. Of course. Why is it between Feminists and you guys everyone thinks this is some sort of Zero Sum game? The only reasons the systems that make life harder for men and women still exist is because if they were to be overturned everyone would lose a little something and all anyone wants is to have their cake and eat it. Men have it easier in some ways. Too easy. So do women, just in entirely different ways.

Isn't the second one a massive red flag? I mean men can opt out of dealing with close/romantic/co-dependent relationships with women if they want, but '...deal with women anymore'? If you see women as fellow human beings (and if you don't, you need serious help) "dealing" with them is very much implied. While I'd personally never hate on anyone for doing it, it's unarguably an easy way to make money. Critique of capitalism isn't 'extremism' - which if you read this link is the point being skirted around - in fact extremism often comes in the form of shutting people up when it comes to critiques , which is exactly what this law does, and circles back to my original point abou the clear (and often outright stated) goals of the UK neocons. If they can define 'criticism of capitalism' as 'extremism' then we're already on clearly s…

I think your response speaks for itself in proving most - if not all - of my points. Thank you. I didn't mention Communism at all - either a solution or as anything whatsoever to do with this. You did. It's worth you comprehending that this is why we're in such trouble and why critical race theory is even getting traction in the first place - because of people like you acting like anything Left of Thatcher is a fucking socialist hellscape. You've drunk the koolaid. To such an extent that even yo…

It might be a 'fact' that we're 'in capit…

It shouldn't go unaddressed that what she's saying isn't true, and is more of a political manoeuvre on the part of the Tories. They do teach Capitalism as 'fact' and recently banned the teaching of so-called "anti-capitalist" material which strongly suggests they're just attacking everything they consider their political 'evil' rather than approaching this even-handedly. Right Wing racism will take any valid criticism of things like Critical Race or Gender theories and run with it as far as they…
