5	How do you break out of small talk? I completely agree. It's just an easy way to break out of small talk, but for the actual deep conversation, you are correct. 207	How do you break out of small talk? Instead of asking the regular small-talk questions such as "How...?" "When...?" "What...?", ask "Why...?" It's quite simple, and usually opens up a lot of chances to delve deeper into a conversation. It isn't as much as surface-level conversation anymore. If you can find their "hot-button", or a topic they seem really passionate about, asking "Why...?" at the right time will do it for you.
