My ex came up with all sorts of lies and half truths because she was unwilling to accept that she was the villain in her story. She made several claims that were objectively untrue. Personally, I would not tell the kids that their mother cheated. That just leads to escalating back and forth claims. Rather, deal with her vague claims by giving an age appropriate explanation.
