I'd guess that men who present themselves as openly LGBT aren't treated with as much hostility as typically masculine men, thus they don't have as much incentive to seek men's rights. I'm extrapolating based on my experience as a typically masculine and straight-presenting pansexual.

Very true, mutilation is bad, genital mutilation is doubly so, kind of insane it's even a thing still, really puts it into perspective how little some people care about our rights.

This is gonna sound hyperbolic but literal death. It's rare but there's a real possibility of infection by Staphylococcus aureus, a bacterium present in almost everyone's skin, once in a blood vessel or capillary it can form a tough biofilm that makes it really hard to treat, from there it can lead to sepsis. Just because the human body is pretty good at dealing with open wounds and infections doesn't mean it's a good idea bring it upon children with a still-developing immune system.

Literal first post when I checked the sub is titled "men don't view women as people". Holy fuck it's worse than I thought.

I like pans. But I mostly go my own way nowadays so I don't notice much meaningful impact from it, positive or negative.

I know reddit is owned by a Chinese company but could there be a class action lawsuit or something similar against such blatant sexism in the TOS? If the app won't do anything about the reports then something has gotta be done against the app.

Men throughout history did not want to have to deal with birth control I'd say that's not the main reason for lack of male birth control, rather it's the fact that physiologically we just don't have a simple hormonal on/off button like women do. There's no easy non-invasive way to achieve male birth control besides the classic sperm trap (condoms).

Probably it's like here in Brazil, where it's mandatory, but you can say that your vision is extremely poor without glasses, feign some respiratory troubles, whatever; and they'll let you go without much trouble afterwards. I did the glasses thing, they never checked how bad it actually is, just saw that the lenses were thick and I was sparred. You still get placed on a certain list, so if an actual war breaks out you'll be called no matter what, but in peace times they're pretty lenient.

Very true, as "the queer guy friend" in a group of female friends, having my butt groped is a very recurring thing. I wouldn't personally label it as sexual harassment, but by a lot of feminist definitions it definitely is.

Yeah, those studies use "forceful penetration" as the definition of rape. Meaning that cis women cannot physically rape someone. I think calling it biased would be an understatement.
/r/MensRights04/12/21 05:50 PM

Yep, that's exactly the stuff I think should be critiqued. Also the study reaches the figure of 71% (which is surprisingly low considering their definitions of harassment), no idea where she got the 97 from.

I mean, I get your point but no study is gonna get traction with a sample size of 10, and there's always a chance you might get an uneven sampling, that's why there are also calculations to determine if the result is caused by random chance OR if it's discreet enough to be statistically relevant, from there you can extrapolate the results to a bigger population with quite a high degree of certainty. There are plenty of points to critic the study for, but the use of statistics is not one of them.…

"being stared at", "in-person jokes" and "online comments or jokes" Wtf, with those criteria I could say I get sexually harassed almost daily. A few of my friends actually mask compliments behind somewhat mean jokes, it's their way of expressing themselves.

More akin to serfdom in my opinion. Isn't it nice that we get to be treated like medieval peasants nowadays? /s

Right? They literally concocted this guy's whole personality based on the pose he had at the time of the picture. Is it any surprise that this fabricated personality also conforms to a lot of their views of "trash men" and backs their stereotypes? What a clown world 😔

You're grasping at straws my dude, we don't have nearly enough context to assume "walking out" was even an option. Granted, we also don't have context to be sure OP was absolutely level headed and 100% objective, if things escalated like that he probably wasn't, but guess what, that still doesn't mean he deserves to be attacked with a deadly weapon and not be able to defend himself. Expecting someone to be completely reasonable in such an emotional situation like breaking up with a loved one is …

Didn't you read the post? OP's ex was attacking him with a knife I don't know why I even need to explain this to you, but men aren't indestructible hulking machines capable of enduring any attack, OP was 100% in the right to defend himself against someone who clearly was in a position to end his life.

Jeez, what happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? There's a saying in scientific research "you can't prove a negative", it means that a proposed phenomenon may always be smaller than measurable and thus a negative result can never truly be proved, you need a positive one (like detecting a different chemical on site) to disprove the original hypothesis. My point being that putting the burden of proof on someone automatically labeled as guilty and having them need to prove their innocence may…

I'm all for consistency. Either women can abort whenever they like but child support and stuff like it no longer exist as the man has no responsibility over the child. Or it's always a two person deal, both have a say in matters such as abortion but both have to actively contribute to parenting and can be liable if they fail to do so.

In reality many people do think a man needs to justify himself. I myself am asexual and whenever I present people (both men and women) that are trying to engage with me with that information they either see it as a sort of challenge or get extremely offended for some reason. In my personal experience men are way chiller and easier to casually get some action going than women, so sometimes I'll kiss some dude in a party and then refuse a girl that shows up being too forward, their response is usu…

Thanks for the lengthy explanation, I absolutely agree with all your points, what I tried to convey (possible badly so) with my first comment is that even trying to do stuff for yourself isn't risk free and will be met with scrutiny, so maybe many men still marry because it's the path of least resistance.

Even if it's common knowledge now there's evidence behind it and measurable parameters, possible influence factors, etc. Science is about making sure we know something to the details.

Well look at what happened to MGTOW. A bunch of dudes trying to distance themselves from this whole relationship meta and now their sub is banned and they have no place on reddit to find like-minded people.

It's relevant because by saying "if you get offended we're talking about you" it essentially corners every single man, because men that know they aren't trash will justifiably get offended by this statement and thus fall right into this argumentative trap. It's a nasty low blow.

It's actually impressive how that post manages to fall flat on its face right on the first lines. If 12 incidents is enough for something to be perceived as a threat then we should be on the lookout for fridges and bikes and dogs, etc.

I'm gonna be very honest, there's always one or two blatant "incel" comments every post but they're always heavily downvoted or already removed by mods. It means we keep our community in check and watch out for prejudice, unlike some other subs out there cough cough fds

This wouldn't be a problem if there was such a thing as pro-choice for men. With abortion becoming more legalized we're seeing how women are the only ones withholding all the options. Man: wants / Woman: doesn't = abortion Woman: wants / Man: doesn't = baby, but the father has to pay custody Even if you take your precautions as a man and use condoms or get a vasectomy, your partner can still get pregnant with another dude and you might be liable for custody, specially in countries where it's ill…

I think it's a self-fulfilling prophecy, the more scrutinized they are the more they some of them are going to be pushed over the edge and do something that warrants more scrutiny. It's a slippery slope.

Ever since I realized I was asexual I stopped trying to force myself to enjoy sexual/romantic encounters and started turning people down when I was not into it, and I gotta say that women are WAY worse to deal with, rarely ever stepping down after a single "no". Granted, the men who approach me are homo or bi so I can't speak about hetero men and thus my experience with men will be fundamentally different than whatever happens to women, but to me and also some gay friends, women are always the m…

This is gonna sound "easier said than done" but stick with me. I believe it's very important for this sub to be constantly faced with criticism and opposing ideas, it helps us sharpen our arguments and provides some insight for other people about what happens here, this is how I found the sub about a year ago. If the ideas expressed here get contained inside an echo chamber with only people that already agree on those topics, little will improve over time, and the narrative is likely to get warp…

I'll add a simple one that I haven't seen so far: Being a very skinny (almost frail) boy for my teenage years and still always being peer pressured into doing physical tasks when among girls, even when they were clearly stronger than me.

The fact that they talk about it as a disorder not something completely behavioral and them try to sell it as being gendered while providing absolutely no evidence linking it to sexual chromosomes or reproductive hormones is disgusting. When did personal opinions get more important than critical thinking and factual analysis? edit: forgot the question mark

Wow this is so ridiculous. Imagine if someone was trying to rob a store, police stop him in the act and the bastard just goes "I'm actually the manager here, I was just getting my money" and it magically turns into a civil matter. What a joke.

What the actual fuck The thing that scares me the most is that this is all backed up by the government, so there's next to nothing a man can do to combat this. Since history is cyclical and whatnot, I hope this is the worst it's going to get before we reach a turning point, it's daunting to imagine it could get worse than this.

Just say the truth, that systemic racism is a thing and so is systemic sexism. Most measures of aggression and violence focus only on physical stuff, which is biased against men because women use more psychological and emotional means (which is probably even worse in the long term, and contributes to the higher male suicide rates). The very few studies that included both physical and psychological aggression found that women are usually more violent than men.

I might regret this but I'm gonna try to level with you: I wonder how many of those perpetrators are men vs women? Does it really matter what the sex of the perpetrator is? The fact is that it affects men the most and if the offender having the same sex of the victim means that the crime is somehow lessened, well that's just a whole other kind of effed up. Is that completed suicides or attempts? It's well known that men more likely to use a more lethal method of suicide attempt and thus complete…
