I think it made a reasonable impact on guys long term relationships with friends, but nowhere near the impact it made on women w/ the attention aspect. For guys the ability to just reconnect with someone and chat easily after years apart is very handy, and suits our casual natures fine. I think you've probably got some kind of confirmation bias there, moreso than a genetic effect. I mean even at the simplest level, an individual grandparent will only contribute 1/4 of your genetic material (so no way to get "more traits" from a g.parent than a parent - you get your g.parents traits through them, with an extra dose of the other g.parents traits + 2 lots of random recombination + mutations). I'd suggest getting a dog OP. Or really any kind of pet. But dogs are best if you want company. Having something to look after helps keep your mind relatively focused, and stops you feeling too useless. If you need something lower maintenance, snakes are pretty awesome.
