Okay. You’re saying that women specifically are in danger when interacting with men, because men are capable of more severe violence than women. That’s what I thought you had initially said.
/r/MensRights21/03/23 05:20 PM
1

So you’re saying that the greatest danger in any interaction between men and women is male violence? Just making sure I’m understanding you correctly.
/r/MensRights21/03/23 03:13 PM
1

While men are statistically more effective when enacting violence, physical abuse has a terrible psychological impact. Women are not less capable of being violent, and men should have support if ever abused by a woman. This is only half of the argument. You still haven’t answered my question about what supposedly makes women talking more dangerous than men talking.
/r/MensRights21/03/23 02:57 PM
0

Do you think so? Because of biological factors increasing upper body strength and size, right? This is assuming no weapons are involved, but let’s roll with it just for the argument. So what biological factors make it extra dangerous for women to say mean things compared to when men say mean things?
/r/MensRights21/03/23 02:39 PM

This is misleading about real violence. Like I get that you personally might prefer to be stabbed rather than spoken to, but that’s not a popular opinion.

It sounds like she likes you walking her to the car, and the fact that she likes it even though it’s considered “misogynistic” has her re-thinking what misogyny really is. I would suggest being direct about it, but in a polite way. Something like, “Do you like me walking you to your car? I can keep doing it, but you complained before about it being misogynistic.” It provides the framework necessary for her to put real thought into her feelings about men’s behavior, and her reaction should give y…

Document as much evidence as possible of your avoiding her, any threats she has made or harassment against you, document asking her to leave you alone and not talk to you or approach you, document telling all of your mutual friends or acquaintances that you are avoiding her and have asked her not to have anything to do with you. Be formal and polite with all of it, and make sure everyone knows that you are avoiding her like the plague. If you’re lucky, she will be dumb enough to try and escalate…

The one thing that keeps getting to me is how many people seem to believe the “cure” for the portion of men in the population who don’t act right is shitting on them and denying them access to certain psychological and emotional needs. But the whole thing that MAKES dudes like that is growing up in a situation where you’re shit on and denied access to psychological and emotional needs. I’ve seen it over and over… young men who are brought up with loving parents, who guide and teach and strengthe…

I’m not saying it’s the only factor, but doctors recommend masturbation to help alleviate an enflamed/enlarged prostate. An enflamed/enlarged prostate increases the risk of developing prostate cancer. I’m not sure what’s controversial about that. Sexual activity is generally considered healthy.

I completely agree. Women grow up building complex social systems to keep one another safe. Men don’t have these systems and are restricted to bonding in competitive circumstances. This creates a huge disadvantage in situations which involve abuse and disability.

Capitalism is predatory and exploitative. The sex industry is going to exploit people based on their sex, because it is an industry. This is why I was grossed out when that post was made in here about calculating people’s “sexual market value”.

There are more men’s-only shelters in my city than any other shelters, but it’s still never enough. The shelters are all overflowing, bridge camps have grown into small villages, there are squat houses in every neighborhood and STILL people sleeping all over the sidewalks, in parks and living in cars. Not to mention, the conditions in the men’s shelters have been compared to prison. Many people avoid the shelters to stay safe from illness and random violence.

Boys are also still being terrorized by REAL sexual predators alongside their female peers. We need a better method for managing sexual assault, because currently, our systems are managing to both harm innocent men AND let sexual predators get away with ruining lives.

Does no one realize how weird this is? If I’m getting with someone, man or woman, the amount of partners they’ve had means very little to me. And every relationship has the potential to be a long-term relationship. There is no separation of sexual and emotional compatibility or “value”. Not to mention, someone who already has a high body count is going to naturally get along better with another sexually and romantically experienced person. Body shaming is a bad habit that all of us learn in some way or another growing up. The body positivity movement works to undo that in ALL of its forms, from gender expectations to disabilities, body shape and skin color. So yes, sometimes people who support body positivity in some ways forget that they have their own body-related biases to overcome. The best way to combat this is to create conversation and media around the acceptance of different bodies. There will always be backlash when advoc…

Kids get bullied. I have never met anyone of any gender or personality type who has never been bullied, UNLESS they had obsessively made sure they were always the bully to avoid getting bullied. If it doesn’t happen when you’re small, it happens when you’re older.

If we base our concepts of masculinity on more than just busting a nut, men won’t feel as much like they have to have a bunch of sex all of the time to be a worthwhile person. Defining manhood by something that revolves entirely around a man’s interactions with the opposite sex is kinda misandrist anyway. You can be bad at sex, or completely celibate, and still be a valuable man. You can still be manly.

There are groups who advocate for the mass lynching of women and call themselves MRA. Feminists tend to see more of these guys because they are targeted more, so feminism as an ideology has grown to believe all men’s rights activists are these murderers in disguise. I think that’s why it’s important to work on image though. Otherwise, feminists and MRA are going to continue wasting time and effort fighting instead of making the world a better place to live in.

Equity only makes sense when people have a clear enough understanding of what it means and how to apply it. Which, granted, I don’t trust the archaic American system of government to handle. True equity would be providing men with extra forms of mental health support to compensate how our culture instigates and perpetuates mental illness in men. True equity would be considering military position based on someone’s individual physical and psychological ability to do the job instead of expecting a…

This is sowing divisive politics. There is no reason for gender equality to be riddled with slap-fights over who suffers more. We should be working to alleviate suffering, not parading it about like a badge.

Maybe assigning people’s roles in life based on sex is a part of the problem. Maybe if we just let people be themselves, maybe if YOU lived wholly and truly as you want to regardless of other people’s opinions, we could build a way of life for humanity that doesn’t hold us back from what we want in life. Maybe we should be allowed to be whoever we want, even if it doesn’t always make sense.

It is, but we have the power to end genital mutilation here. And instead, it remains a standard medical practice for male babies. As if hurting male children is somehow okay cause “feelings are for sissies” or whatever.

CPS is pretty awful. They’re more concerned with stealing, selling and molesting orphans than helping anyone. At least that’s the consensus of all 20+ people I’ve met who were cycled through the foster care system. Oh, except that one guy. I met one guy that just got adopted by nice people.

Yeah it’s the cultural divide drawn between people’s politics, as far as I can tell. “Effeminate” men get bullied for being effeminate, so their worldview lines up with the feminist narrative of “men are mean and femininity is attacked”. They seek refuge with women who prefer feminine men because they don’t get along with very masculine men. More masculine women are also rejected and bullied by masculine men in childhood, which gives the two demographics plenty of man-hating to bond over. ~~~~~~…

Mkay. And I am saying that there are lots of people who work very hard and still can’t afford many of their most basic needs, let alone to support a whole other human being. Not because of any fault of their own, but because the economy in their local region is designed to trap them in poverty and ignorance so companies will always have a supply of desperate workers to under-pay.

Insisting “most families” in the United States can afford to buy a home with a single income under current economic conditions signals an incredibly poor understanding of life outside of your personal bubble. I don’t mean that as an attack, but to bring it to your attention that there may be some details you’re missing about people who have lived differently than you. I think about this a lot. Like I see “traditional” women always complaining about wanting a man to provide for them and not wanting a job, and even complaining about feminism making it harder for them to secure a man to provide for them. The toxic sex-based segregation inherent in society holds a lot of people back from living happy lives, and a lot of men from being happy, loving fathers. I’ve met a handful of successful women who want exactly this, though, and they often complain how difficult it is to find a husband who wants this life. It’s hard to find the right people, but you can build the life you want! Just because the life you want is unconventional doesn’t mean it’s impossible. You have my best wishes in finding the r…

I guess. I’ve done a lot of suicide prevention and similar social work. It’s a whole lot more than a bad court case, losing a job or shitty rumors that makes someone decide the struggle is no longer worth it. Unless they’re a teenager, usually. Okay, that makes more sense. I’ve practiced suicide prevention on every level there is, but I’ve never seen someone be like, “My life and everything in it is beautiful except for this one hardship I’m now going to make a public display of ending myself over.” It seems so weird. But if there was hidden psychological abuse, that’s a little more telling.

Falsely incriminating your partner is a form of legal abuse. Similarly to sexual assault, false accusations most often come from someone who is known and trusted. I don’t think that these topics are exclusive or should be discussed separately. Further, I think discussing these topics in different ways based on a child’s gender will lead to unfair gaps formed in each child’s understanding of the world, possibly leaving one or both sexes at a disadvantage in adulthood.

Oh and then there’s our society branding all trans women as sexual predators and that is a huge example of false accusations ruining women’s lives, often having them murdered. Oh no, 100% this is taken seriously as a legal issue AND in communities/subs regarding sexual assault. A lot of feminists will even jump on board to catch a female sex offender. That’s… not matriarchy. It’s far from the definition of matriarchy. It’s the definition of fascism. First, lots of women can’t safely have children due to health concerns. So you’re adding another oppressive layer of social complication for women who can’t meet expected performative female standards. Let’s not even mention women who don’t WANT to reproduce, right? Look how that went during the Vietnam war. Draft protesters were jailed and slaughtered and now, the government is looking to EXPAND it. Ideally, I think you’re right. Realistically, I don’t think much of anyone is willing to actually fight for anything real anymore. Causes which have any real potential to free people from oppression are suicidal. Reading the comments is just making me think more and more that we need rights around sex, gender and reproduction to be unified under an all-encompassing philosophy which doesn’t separate any sex or gender from the equation. We will never have equality in a society which insists on gender-segregated issues. It takes two people to make a baby. Both people’s interests are always going to be involved. I think suicide is called selfish because of ableism, but most of the suicide victims I’ve known dealt with some kind of disability or health issue that made life hell for them. I DO see men targeted more often as victims of ableism.

Orrr if people have support coping with them there will be less suicides. You know. One of those men’s issues this group is made for. Or do you not think men’s feelings are important?

I gotta say again, from someone who dates both men AND women, the amount of shame people have been conditioned to feel around sexuality is appalling. I see people from both sides perform this kind of aggressive projection - the whole “I sense sexuality and that is evil so I must attack/blame someone or I feel shame”. The difference is we haven’t developed any generally agreed upon social checks for when women do this, and we should. It’s a difficult conversation to have, but I think it needs to …

Aw, hahah. You had me worried. NBD though, I just come from a rough background. Everybody is always teetering on the edge. Glad you’re okay.

Do you have friends or family you can safely talk about your feelings with? Feelings of intense hopelessness and worthlessness are a sign to reach out to your support network, or therapist if you have one. I mean yeah Amber Heard sucks ass, but that doesn’t mean your whole life is over.

Hey, is there a way to flag posts when it’s an obvious cry for help? Can someone give this guy a hug or something?

What does this have to do with men’s rights?

I mean… I see what you seem to by trying to say, but if men’s rights groups and whatnot are about equality, why are the titles centered around masculinity and men instead of something just like “gender equality”? We had reasons for calling each movement something different. My hope is that this separation of the collective goals of gender equality are temporary. That was the whole point in the beginning, wasn’t it? That separating everyone and treating them differently based on their reproductiv…

MRA forums have developed a bad reputation for advocating for violence. That’s it, it’s just the rumors.

I have been helping him. I live in another state with extremely limited resources. That’s why I thought men’s rights advocates might have something more going on than I do.

It’s a small town. He has been through the whole damn police department. This has been going on for about a year now, and the first thing he did after she blew up was file a restraining order. Police are pretty useless.

NGL this sounds a little bit like victim blaming. I sleep with both men and women, and the men who come at me with “simp” tactics are clearly self-deprecating, manipulatively groveling and whining about how much better than them you are so you will feel like you have to be sexually or romantically involved to convince him he is worthy of basic humanity. Give him what he wants, or you are every evil person who has ever hurt or abandoned him. This is clearly not mentally or emotionally healthy, an…

Most women I know who have married never actually wanted to be in a traditional marriage and were pressured by social standards and upbringing. The romance and fairytale appeal draws them in, sometimes even just practicality. After marriage, I hear older women talk about realizing just how much they didn’t want that life, and they seek to explore what kind of life it is they REALLY wanted but didn’t get the chance for in their youth. Unfortunately, the most viable option for life changes in thes…
