Name was just an example, but the point is that you don't really know what AI is using to make decisions in the data you give it. Some of the things on a resume might have bias already in them. If I'm using the current employee as the data labeled "good candidates" and rejected applications as "bad candidates", then all I'm doing is automating the bias that was already there.

Not necessarily. I don't know the details of this story, but it's possible the AI was using something unrelated to qualifications to make decisions. For example, if the training data has a bunch of people named Matt who were hired, it might "learn" that Matts are better candidates and give them a favorable bias.

Oh, she's the first to admit she's not qualified. She has a degree in Chemistry, but was hired on as a senior software engineer and had never written code in her life. They didn't expect any work from her anyway, so all she does is talk to people all day. The difference with her though is that she talks about work and contributes something rather than gossip and talk about how difficult her life is like the women she works with.

Not google, but my wife worked at another tech company and saw the same thing. She was invited to 3 hours of daily meetings for "supporting women" and "developing female engineers". All that went on in these meetings was people complaining about how shitty men were and how bad women had it. She's very much a feminist and even she was disgusted at the entitlement and sense of superiority in those groups. Not to mention the took up a third of the work week.

My company, which is all for empowerment of other groups, didn't say a word about international men's day. Then, the day after, they sent an email about celebrating non-binary people. I think it's possible, given the right set of women. The problem is that companies right now are so desperate to hire women, they'll hire anyone. In general, I don't care what people think of me, but it's necessary if you're trying to effect change by popular vote. Then it becomes about politics; what the average person considers reasonable. I would agree. I was raped in college and it didn't give me PTSD, or cause me to become suicidal, or totally mess me up. It happened, it sucked, and I moved on. I think most of the trauma women experience is because they've constantly been told it's the worst thing that could ever happen to them. I just watched the Documentary 13th. (I recommend it if you haven't seen it.) It's a really interesting history of how the media portrayed black men as criminals and rapists as a way to oppress and imprison them after slavery became illegal. It worked so well that even black men started thinking they were more violent. As I was watching, it occurred to me that this is exactly what feminism is doing right now.

"The patriarchy" is just another feminist boogeyman like "rape culture" and "toxic masculinity." It has no definition and just exists as a way to justify their hatred of men by pretending it exists. That said, there are some cultural aspects that do negatively affect men. For one, we're not given as much support and are told to be tough. I'd say a lot of modern feminism has a negative impact on women. The whole "patriarchy" narrative tells women that they don't have any agency of their own and it's all the evil men controlling their lives. And then there's the whole "girl power". By putting women and minorities in media, you get diversity points. There's never backlash if you show preference to these groups, but there could be if you picked all white men. This is also pretty common everywhere. In college, programs like computer science and engineering hardly had any women, so they would bring girl in from other departments for photos in recruiting pamphlets.
